Cholangiocarcinoma is the second most frequent primary neoplasm of the liver and its incidence is increasing in Western countries. These neoplasms arise from the biliary tract and can be categorized according to their anatomical location as intrahepatic and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas. Their prognosis is poor and most patients are unfortunately not suitable for curative resection at the time of diagnosis, due to advanced stage of tumor. However, in recent years, improvement in non invasive diagnostic imaging modalities, preoperative optimisation of liver function, a better understanding of liver anatomy and increased safety of liver surgery had gradually improved outcome This book contains an up-to-date review of diagnostic and staging tools of cholangiocarcinoma, and of long-term outcome of surgery and liver transplantation. It also provides a guide to optimal selection of therapeutic modalities and a detailed description details of surgical techniques and principles for curative and palliative surgery. The volume will appeal to physicians and hepatobiliary surgeons who want to improve their knowledge about surgical management of intrahepatic and hilar cholangiocarcinomas.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of the research on bile duct pathology, from basic theory to practical aspects, and presents the latest advances. The contributing authors extensively discuss the topic from different perspectives, including the pathogenesis of conditions such as cellular senescence and innate immunity as well as diseases such as IgG4-related sclerosing cholangitis and intraductal papillary neoplasm. Pathology of the Bile Duct is a valuable resource not only for clinicians in various disciplines, such as internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and radiology, but also for pathologists. Further, it allows practitioners and researchers at all levels to broaden their understanding of the subject and to explore the latest findings in bile duct pathology. .

This volume covers the pathophysiology, epidemiology, presentation, diagnosis, medical and surgical management of benign biliary stenosis. The book is uniquely structured in a way that allows areas of controversy to be highlighted through the use of a two chapter format for each topic. Each chapter topic is written by an expert in the field, with a second expert highlighting controversies and offering opposing viewpoints and treatment paradigms through a counterpoint chapter immediately following the primary chapter. The volume also features an array of diagrams and illustrations. As an authoritative text on the clinical care of patients with benign biliary stenosis, Management of Benign Biliary Stenosis and Injury: A Comprehensive Guide is a valuable resource for all practitioners involved in the care of these patients, including gastroenterologists, gastrointestinal surgeons, surgical oncologists, and transplant physicians. .

Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) is a novel non-invasive technique for diagnosis of pancreatic-biliary disease. The purpose of this book is to highlight the advantages, limitations and indications of MRCP. Specific examples have been selected to showcase the utility of this technique in a large variety of clinical conditions. Each example is purposefully used to stress important technical features, to give practical advice, or to discuss the role of MRCP in specific clinical situations. Important features of the book are the high quality of the illustrations, the reduction of the text to relevant and practically useful issues, and the simple and logic organisation of the case material. The book should show: the optimal technique in MRCP, the pitfalls and limitations.
