Trente ans apres la chute du Mur, de nouvelles et profondes fractures menacent l'Europe, le duo franco-allemand qui en a ete le moteur, et l'Allemagne elle-meme. Face au Brexit ou aux appetits des Etats-Unis et de la Chine, il est vital que les deux riverains du Rhin rebatissent leur partenariat. Pour cela, ils doivent reapprendre a se connaitre. Or prevaut aujourd'hui un double malentendu : la France observe l'Allemagne avec passion, que ce soit pour la hair, ou l'imiter, tandis que celle-ci hesite entre admiration et condescendence, sans qu'aucune ne comprenne vraiment plus l'autre - notamment les elites francaises qui ont une vision depassee de notre vosin, Cet ouvrage porte sur l'Allemagne un regard incisif, nourri d'une profonde connaissance de sa culture et de sa politique, d'experiences, et de rencontres. Il la met en perspective depuis la fin du nazisme puis du communisme, en passant par la reunification, jusqu'au long mandat de la chanceliere Merkel. Confrontee au defi migratoire et a la resurgence de l'extreme droite tandis que le modele economique et social, autrefois tant admire, atteint ses limites. A new cultural-theoretical approach is used to develop a philosophy to overcome post-war traumata, or the traumatization effects that affect entire national cultures. The new aspect is the book's study of both France and Germany in its discussion of post-war issues. The reader is given insights into the approaches France and Germany took in their self-evaluation processes. In one case the issue is the admission of total humiliation, and in the other it is salvaging a certain sense of national honor.
