En 2002, sept ans après leur lancement respectif en Suède et en Norvège, Metro et 20 minutes bousculent le landernau de la presse française. En 2007, 20 minutes devient le quotidien national le plus lu en France, et en 2009, les gratuits dans leur ensemble comptent 4,5 millions de lecteurs quotidiens. Passées les premières polémiques, ces journaux, symboles d'un nouveau mode d'accès à l'information, semblent désormais incontournables dans notre paysage médiatique. Reflets de notre société et de son rapport à la culture, sont-ils pour autant devenus l'horizon indépassable de la presse d'aujourd'hui ? Rien n'est moins sûr. Rémy Rieffel est sociologue des médias, professeur à l'université Paris-II (IFP). Ses recherches portent notamment sur les professionnels des médias, les rapports entre médias et culture et le pouvoir des médias.
