Although connectives fired the starting signal for construction grammar with let alone, they then faded from its focus - potentially due to the challenges that they present to the concept of construction on several levels. This book delves into connectives and looks at the examples of weil, da, and denn, analyzing their use in the interplay of form, function, and context in different communicative contexts. Konnektoren bildeten zwar mit let alone den Startschuss für die Konstruktionsgrammatik, rückten danach aber aus ihrem Fokus - möglicherweise auch deshalb, weil sie auf mehreren Ebenen zum Verlassen ihrer Komfortzone einladen. Auf der Formseite sind ihre Realisierungsmöglichkeiten durch die Größe und Variabilität ihrer Slots komplexer als die Einheiten, die bislang bevorzugt als Konstruktionen beschrieben wurden. Auf der Bedeutungsseite verwischen sie die Grenzen von Kategorien wie Semantik, Pragmatik oder Informationsstruktur, indem sie sowohl an stabile Frames geknüpft sind als auch je nach Textsorte und kommunikativem Kontext unterschiedliche Präferenzen zeigen. Sie werfen damit die Frage auf, welche Realisierungsmöglichkeiten als Konstruktionen gelten sollten sowie welche Vorlieben in die Konstruktionsbeschreibung gehören und welche nicht. Dieses Buch stellt sich den genannten Herausforderungen am Beispiel von weil, da und denn. Bisherige Annahmen bezüglich dieser Konnektoren werden einer kritischen Prüfung unterzogen und in ein konstruktionsgrammatisches Schema überführt, das an drei verschiedenen Korpora erprobt und verfeinert wird, um das Zusammenspiel von Form, Funktion und Kontext konstruktional abzubilden.

Die innovative Studie wendet Verfahren der linguistisch-semantischen Frame-Analyse auf die Rekonstruktion komplexer fachlich-institutioneller Begriffe in der Domäne "Recht" an und diskutiert intensiv die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen dieser Methode. Es werden Begriffe und Begriffsnetze aus den Rechtsgebieten Strafrecht und Bürgerliches Recht analysiert und frame-semantisch rekonstruiert; dabei werden z.T. auch konkurrierende Begriffsdeutungen und diachrone Begriffsentwicklungen mit erfasst.Die Studie leistet Pionierarbeit, da bisher keine anderen Publikationen vorliegen, die auch praktisch-empirisch Bedeutungs- und Begriffswissens-Frames so umfassend und intensiv beschreiben und frame-semantisch darstellen wie hier. Die Aspekte und Probleme einer solchen korpusgestützt und empirisch detailliert arbeitenden Frame-Analyse werden ausführlich dokumentiert und diskutiert. Sie zeigen die Leistungsfähigkeit dieser Methode (aber auch, wo ihre Grenzen liegen). Insofern kann diese Arbeit Vorbild für ähnlich orientierte Studien auch zu anderen Sprachgebrauchs- und Wissens-Domänen sein, und das geplante Buch deshalb auf das Interesse anderer in diesem Feld tätiger Forscherinnen und Forscher stoßen.

This open access book presents novel theoretical, empirical and experimental work exploring the nature of mental representations that support natural language production and understanding, and other manifestations of cognition. One fundamental question raised in the text is whether requisite knowledge structures can be adequately modeled by means of a uniform representational format, and if so, what exactly is its nature. Das Frame-Modell ist eine der wichtigsten Neuentwicklungen in der Sprachtheorie der letzten Jahrzehnte und zu einem Bindeglied zwischen Linguistik, Kognitionspsychologie, allgemeiner Kognitionswissenschaft und KI-Forschung geworden. In dieser handbuchartigen Einführung werden die wichtigsten theoretischen Grundlagen der Frame-Semantik erstmals aus linguistischer Perspektive umfassend dargestellt, diskutiert und weiterentwickelt. Neben Begründern wie Fillmore, Minsky, Schank/Abelson und wichtigen theoretischen Vorläufer wie Bartlett werden neuere Konzeptionen (wie Barsalou) ebenso behandelt wie Weiterentwicklungen in der angewandten linguistischen Forschung. Im Anschluss an die einführende Darstellung und Diskussion frame-theoretischer Ansätze und Forschungspraktiken wird ein umfassendes integratives Arbeitsmodell zur Frame-Semantik vorgestellt und werden die verschiedenen linguistischen Anwendungsmöglichkeiten einer Frame-Analyse demonstriert. This book focuses on the development of the law of conspiracy in England from the thirteenth to the early eighteenth century. The historiography of the law of conspiracy has adopted an unmistakably doctrinal approach to this topic which has produced a treasure trove of legal sources. By borrowing concepts from cognitive linguistics, this research will shed light upon new aspects of these sources that the doctrinal approach could not reveal. It will show how certain conducts were lexicalized as a conspiracy in the Middle Ages. It will also show how these terms are involved in the lexicalization of the crime of treason and how through a process of conceptual blending the action upon the case in the nature of conspiracy rose as an action separate from the medieval conspiracy. Finally, it will be seen how the modern offense of conspiracy emerged out of the process of conceptual blending through analogies with treason and the action upon the case in the nature of conspiracy.------ Este libro se centra en la genealogía del delito de conspiración en Inglaterra desde el siglo XIII hasta comienzos del XVIII. La historiografía acerca del mismo ha sido de carácter marcadamente doctrinal, aunque ha producido un valioso acopio de fuentes. Haciendo uso de conceptos de la lingüística cognitiva, esta investigación revela aspectos de la genealogía del concepto de conspiración que el enfoque doctrinal no podía percibir. Se muestra cómo ciertas conductas fueron lexicalizadas como conspiración en la Edad Media, cómo el mismo término aparece en la conceptualización del delito de traición y cómo a través de un proceso de integración conceptual se produjo la action upon the case in the nature of conspiracy diferente de la conspiración medieval. Finalmente, también se verá cómo el moderno sentido de conspiración surgió a través del mismo proceso de integración conceptual que permitía establecer analogías con el delito de traición, así como con la action upon the case in the nature of conspiracy.
