Para ello, explora el fenómeno hasta ahora difuso de la anglomanía - moda de las ideas, influencias y estilos ingleses que dominó la Europa del setecientos - y su fenómeno opuesto, la anglofobia, en tres tipos de prensa bien diferenciados, todo ello en conjunción con la propia coyuntura nacional y el programa de reformas borbónico. Además, esta obra enfatiza la labor de estos periodistas y periódicos, así como sus conexiones con el poder, a la vez que los sitúa como agentes fundamentales de esa red europea de intercambios materiales e intelectuales que sustentó la República de las Letras. Con todo ello, este volumen contribuye a la serie de debates dedicados a la reevaluación de la Ilustración española que buscan situarla en el mapa de las Luces Europeas de entonces y de ahora. LETICIA VILLAMEDIANA GONZÁLEZ es Profesora Titular en el Departamento de Modern Languages and Cultures, University of Warwick. This book constitutes the first monographic study of the cultural transfers from Great Britain to Spain through 18th-Century periodical press, one of the most innovative genres of the period. It exploresthe notion of anglomania - the craze for all things English which spread throughout all Europe - and its reactive phenomenon, anglophobia, offering a contextualised analysis of the transmission, reception and adaptation of BritishEnlightened ideas and reforms in three different types of Spanish periodicals. In so doing, this volume brings to the fore the work of some understudied writers and journalists and situates these important periodicals and their connections to power as a key part of a wider European context of material and intellectual exchanges that sustained the Republic of Letters. This in turn, contributes to recent scholarship arguing for a central place of Spain in the intellectual map of the Enlightenment. Les articles réunis dans ce livre constituent une invitation au voyage, tout d'abord dans l'Espagne du XVIIIe siècle, si mal connue des Français, une Espagne engagée dans un effort de régénération dont les ilustrados sont les principaux artisans. L'action de ces hommes, leurs rêves aussi, ont été affectés par la Révolution qui les surprend, les inquiète et les indigne même, quand elle se fait plus violente, si l'on en croit la majorité des témoignages accessibles, les réactions favorables étant beaucoup plus difficiles à déceler. On entre ensuite dans l'Espagne du XIXe siècle, à la suite des nombreux voyageurs qui franchissent alors les Pyrénées pour découvrir une nation auréolée de tous les attraits de l'exotisme. De leurs récits naîtra l'image de « l’Espagne romantique », un cliché soumis ici à un minutieux examen. Le voyage que l'on effectue en compagnie de Jean-René Aymes se fait sans courir la poste : il s'agit de voir des êtres et des choses, d'observer des phénomènes, d'analyser pour comprendre, en s'aidant, au besoin, de la comparaison ou de l'interaction des regards croisés. Un voyage instructif, assurément, mais jamais ennuyeux en raison de l'alacrité de la pensée et de la plume.

Literaire en historische werken bieden een schat aan informatie over de Spaanse visie op de Nederlanden ten tijde van de Tachtigjarige Oorlog. Toen bonden dappere Spaanse soldaten namelijk de strijd aan met volgens hen hardnekkige en hoogmoedige ketters en rebellen. Gedurende vele jaren zou het koude noorden een beproefd element zijn in het leven van de Spanjaarden van de Gouden Eeuw. Maar wat weten wij daarvan? In De Tachtigjarige Oorlog in Spaanse ogen gaat Yolanda Rodríguez Pérez op zoek naar het beeld dat de Spanjaarden van de Nederlanden en hun bewoners hadden tijdens de Tachtigjarige Oorlog. Zo leren we dat Willem van Oranje gevangen werd genomen door een zwarte Spaanse slaaf die zijn dapperheid wilde bewijzen. Dat de hertog van Alva een zorgzame vader was en Willem van Oranje een wellustige tiran. En dat Nederlandse zuigelingen wijn en bier dronken uit een borstvormige kalebas alsof het melk was. We volgen de ontwikkelingen in de Spaanse beeldvorming vanaf de vooravond van de oorlog tot enkele decennia na de Vrede van Munster. Met behulp van een rijke verzameling bronnen, oorlogskronieken en toneelstukken, maar ook aan de hand van vlugschriften, gedichten, geschiedwerken en prozageschriften, onthult Rodríguez Pérez met wat voor bijzondere ogen de Spanjaarden naar de Lage Landen keken.
