"A variety of foaming techniques and equipment are available to produce very diverse range of products. Several monographic sources are available to learn about these methods of production but very little is known and discussed about the composition of materials to be processed and additives enhancing foamed products and making the foam production more economical. This book concentrates on the selection of additives for these diverse foaming processes which can be enhanced using available today, modern, chemical means to improve product quality, speed up the process, and broaden the range of products which can be produced using foaming technology. This book has also companion Databook of Blowing and Auxiliary Agents which contains data for these diverse chemical components of formulations of foamed materials and reveals their roles in foaming processes. There is no information which is repeated in both books. They do complement each other giving reader comprehensive information on the subject never published before with such a breadth."--

In this new edition of their classic work on Cellular Solids, the authors have brought the book completely up to date, including new work on processing of metallic and ceramic foams and on the mechanical, electrical and acoustic properties of cellular solids. Data for commercially available foams are presented on material property charts; two new case studies show how the charts are used for selection of foams in engineering design. Over 150 references appearing in the literature since the publication of the first edition are cited. The text summarises current understanding of the structure and mechanical behaviour of cellular materials, and the ways in which they can be exploited in engineering design. Cellular solids include engineering honeycombs and foams (which can now be made from polymers, metals, ceramics and composites) as well as natural materials, such as wood, cork and cancellous bone.

These proceedings contain all the presentations from this conference which is now in its fourteenth consecutive year. As the only conference tailored to the specific needs of the polymeric foam industry, this event provided a forum for speakers to showcase new materials and processing technologies that will improve current application performance and benefit from improving or replacing existing material and process selections. As raw material costs still continue to pose a significant economic challenge to manufacturers in high volume markets, end-users are increasingly sourcing novel material

Today there are numerous solutions on offer - new methods, resins, technology, processes and additives and it seems that demand for higher performance and lower costs is set to once again drive technical developments in polymeric foams. Those involved in the manufacture of blowing agents, PU foam insulation and packaging, foam extrusion and equipment manufacture were able to hear, discuss and understand the ways in which they can continue to develop and grow within the market and how our leading panel of speakers addressed such topics and issues. These proceedings cover all the presentations

iSmithers' Blowing Agents & Foaming Processes conference returned for the thirteenth consecutive year to highlight the academic and commercial developments in current and new polymeric foam applications. As the only conference to be tailored to the specific needs of the polymeric foam industry, this was a not-to-be-missed opportunity to hear the latest thinking and best practice in new materials selection and processing technologies. These proceedings cover all the presentations from the conference, bringing you up-to-date on how to find cost-effective alternatives to traditional choices by di
