Abstract

Software is used in many safety- and security-critical systems. Software development is, however, an error-prone task. In this work new techniques for the detection of software faults (or software ""bugs"") are described which are based on a formal deductive verification technology. The described techniques take advantage of information obtained during verification and combine verification technology with deductive fault detection and test generation in a very unified way.

Abstract

Dans le cadre du projet Interreg E-Test et pour l'installation du Télescope Einstein, les paramètres géologiques et structuraux de trois zones situées à l'est de la Belgique et à la frontière Belgo-néerlandaise ont été étudiés par différentes méthodes géophysiques. Ces méthodes regroupent la tomographie sismique à réfraction, l'analyse multi-canaux des ondes de surface, la polarisation des ondes, la méthode des rapports spectraux H/V , la méthode réseau et la tomographie de résistivité électrique. Celles-ci ont été utilisées dans le but de décrire les lithologies qui composent le sous-sol, d'identifier et caractériser les possibles failles présentes dans la région. &#13;Le couplage des connaissances géologiques et l'intégration des analyses géophysiques ont pu précisément déterminer la suite lithologique présente sur les sites, sur une centaine de mètres de profondeur. Cette suite lithologique regroupe des formations datant du Crétacé, suivi de la Formation du Houiller, juxtaposant des roches datant du Tournaisien et/ou Viséen ou du Famennien. La combinaison et inversion des courbes de dispersion obtenues par les méthodes d'analyses des ondes de surface par réseau et sur un profil sismique donnent l'avantage d'exploiter respectivement leurs grandes et superficielles profondeurs d'investigation. Une partie des résultats ont également détecté une faille au niveau de Beusdael et Terziet. Sur ce site, l'ensemble des mesures récoltées par les différentes méthodes géophysiques ont mis en évidence une anomalie. Les variations de propriétés physiques (résistivité électrique et vitesses sismiques Vp et Vs), de part et d'autre de l'anomalie sont le résultat de différences lithologiques dans les couches observées. La complémentarité offerte par l'intégration des résultats provenant des tomographies de résistivité électrique et sismique réfraction ont pu localiser la faille de manière précise. L'utilisation de méthodes géophysiques de profondeur et de proche surface a permis de confirmer, à de nombreuses reprises, la présence de cette faille orientée NW-SE. Elle serait associée au réseau de failles trouvant son origine avec le régime de distension du Graben du Rhin. Dans les sondages géophysiques, la qualité des données est associée à la géologie du milieu, et par extension, au contraste des propriétés physiques des différentes formations lithologiques. Il a été remarqué que, seules, les mesures géophysiques sont limitées et ne peuvent pas détecter les failles sous certaines conditions, comme une grande épaisseur de couche tendre. Les résultats ont illustré l'utilité de l'intégration de plusieurs méthodes géophysiques dans le but de détecter les failles non-exposées dans les régions à activité sismique à faible à modérée, où les failles sont souvent recouvertes par de récentes roches tendres. Within the framework of the Interreg E-Test project and for the installation of the Einstein Telescope, the geological and structural parameters of three areas located in eastern Belgium and on the Belgian-Dutch border were investigated by various geophysical methods. These methods include seismic refraction tomography, multichannel surface wave analysis, wave polarisation, H/V spectral ratio method, array method and electrical resistivity tomography. These were used to describe the lithologies that make up the subsurface, to identify and characterise possible faults in the area.&#13;The combination of geological knowledge and the integration of geophysical analyses helped to precisely determine the lithological sequence present on the sites, to a depth of around 100 metres. This lithological sequence includes formations dating from the Cretaceous followed by the Houiller formation, juxtaposing rocks dating of Tournaisian-Visean and/or Famennian age. The combination and inversion of the dispersion curves obtained by the array and seismic profile S-waves analysis methods give the advantage of exploiting their respective great and shallow depths of investigation. Part of the results also detected a fault within the Beusdael and Terziet area. On this site, the geophysical measurements were able to point out an anomaly in the overall measurements. The variations in physical properties (electrical resistivity and seismic velocities Vp and Vs) on either side of the anomaly are the result of lithological differences in the observed layers. The complementarity offered by the integration of the results from the electrical resistivity tomography and seismic refraction were able to accurately locate the fault. The use of deeper and near-surface geophysical methods has repeatedly confirmed the presence of this NW-SE oriented fault. It is thought to be associated with the fault network originating in the extensional regime of the Rhine Graben. In geophysical surveys, the datas quality is associated with the geologic environment, i.e. on the contrast of the physical properties between lithologies. It has been seen that, alone, geophysical measurements are limited and cannot detect faults under certain conditions such as soft layer's great thickness. The results demonstrate the usefulness of multiple geophysicals measures integration to detect non-exposed faults in areas of low tectonic activity where faults are often covered by recent soft rocks.

Abstract

Due to the increasing demand for security and reliability in manufacturing and mechatronic systems, early detection and diagnosis of faults are key points to reduce economic losses caused by unscheduled maintenance and downtimes, to increase safety, to prevent the endangerment of human beings involved in the process operations and to improve reliability and availability of autonomous systems. The development of algorithms for health monitoring and fault and anomaly detection, capable of the early detection, isolation, or even prediction of technical component malfunctioning, is becoming more and more crucial in this context. This Special Issue is devoted to new research efforts and results concerning recent advances and challenges in the application of “Algorithms for Fault Detection and Diagnosis”, articulated over a wide range of sectors. The aim is to provide a collection of some of the current state-of-the-art algorithms within this context, together with new advanced theoretical solutions.

Abstract

The topics of interest in this book include significant challenges in the BMS design of EV/HEV. The equivalent models developed for several types of integrated Li-ion batteries consider the environmental temperature and ageing effects. Different current profiles for testing the robustness of the Kalman filter type estimators of the battery state of charge are used in this book. Additionally, the BMS can integrate a real-time model-based sensor Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) scheme for a Li-ion cell undergoing degradation, which uses the recursive least squares (RLS) method to estimate the equivalent circuit model (ECM) parameters. This book will fully meet the demands of a large community of readers and specialists working in the field due to its attractiveness and scientific content with a great openness to the side of practical applicability. Abstract

Condition monitoring of machinery is one of the most important aspects of many modern industries. With the rapid advancement of science and technology, machines are becoming increasingly complex. Moreover, an exponential increase of demand is leading an increasing requirement of machine output. As a result, in most modern industries, machines have to work for 24 hours a day. All these factors are leading to the deterioration of machine health in a higher rate than before. Breakdown of the key components of a machine such as bearing, gearbox or rollers can cause a catastrophic effect both in terms of financial and human costs. In this perspective, it is important not only to detect the fault at its earliest point of inception but necessary to design the overall monitoring process, such as fault classification, fault severity assessment and remaining useful life (RUL) prediction for better planning of the maintenance schedule. Information theory is one of the pioneer contributions of modern science that has evolved into various forms and algorithms over time. Due to its ability to address the non-linearity and non-stationarity of machine health deterioration, it has become a popular choice among researchers. Information theory is an effective technique for extracting features of machines under different health conditions. In this context, this book discusses the potential applications, research results and latest developments of information theory-based condition monitoring of machineries.
