ln the form of food or as complements, omega-3 fatty acids have become essential due to the potential beneficial effects on cardiovascular health.They have been assigned the following properties lipidlowering, anti-inflammatory, anti-atherogenic and anti-hypertensive. Many studies have been conducted to evaluate these effects. Since the first demonstration that omega-3 supplementation could reduce the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in 1999, they have been accepted as an adjuvant to current treatments for cardiovascular prophylaxis. However, the results of more recent studies contradict the firstpublished studies, and the efficacy of omega-3 supplementation has been called into doubt. Thus the debate on omega-3 has been launched. Many perspectives regarding this issue haven't then ceased to erupt: Are Omega-3 really devoid of the cardioprotective effects praised for decades? Moreover do they still have a place in cardiovascular prevention? Should we stop to propose omega-3 to our patients? So many questions to which this brief thesis will attempt to answer on the basis of the most recent literature. Sous forme d'aliments ou sous forme de compléments, les acides gras oméga-3 sont devenus incontournables en raison de leurs effets bénéfiques potentiels sur la santé cardiovasculaire. On leur attribue les propriétés suivantes: hypolipidémiante, anti-inflammatoire, antiathérogène et antihypertenseur . De nombreuses recherches ont été menées dans le but d'évaluer ces effets. Depuis que des chercheurs ont démontré qu 'une supplémentation en oméga-3 pouvait réduire le risque de morbi-mortalité cardiovasculaire, ces derniers ont été enregistrés comme traitement adjuvant aux traitements actuels en prévention cardiovasculaire. Cependant, depuis que les résultats d'études récentes en contradiction avec les premiers travaux ont été publiés, l'efficacité d'une supplémentation en oméga-3 a été remise en doute. C'est ainsi que le débat sur les oméga-3 a été lancé. De nombreuses réflexions à ce sujet ne cessent alors de faire éruption : les oméga-3 sont-ils réellement dénués des effets cardio-protecteurs vantés depuis des décennies ? Ont-ils par ailleurs encore une place en prévention cardio-vasculaire? Faut-il en finir avec les oméga-3? Tant de questions auxquels ce mémoire tentera de répondre sur base d 'une revue de la littérature récente.
