Criminal trials often attract great public interest. This interest, again, is essential to criminal justice as such, for in democratic states under the rule of law criminal law and its application need to be asserted and accepted within the public discourse. However, most people do not follow criminal trials as spectators in the courtroom, but by means of public media, such as newspapers, television and - increasingly - the internet. Thus, media outlets gain influence on the public opinion and are able to paint the picture of criminal trials according to their own perception. The media tends to overdraw criminal cases rather than to report the unbiased facts. This leads to tensions between possibly diverging interests of the public, of the judiciary and of the media. This volume addresses these tensions from the perspectives of academics and practitioners, who discussed this issue during an interdisciplinary conference held at the Institute for Criminal Law at the Georg-August-University Göttingen.

The way in which the abuse of the Internet as a propagation medium for child pornography can be stopped is being discussed at national and European level. The focus is on the question of whether direct interference with the Internet structure to prevent access to child pornography web content are justified. This primarily addresses the Internet blocking of access providers and the problem of whether they actually promise an effective measure in the fight against child pornography. The author examines this topic primarily on the basis of a constitutional appreciation of a legislative barrier to prevent access to these child pornography web content, but also includes European development. In addition to the derivation of general constitutional requirements, it also gives an overview of the Access Punishment Law, which was the first serious legal approach to content regulation in 2009/2010, but ultimately was not applied in practice
Child pornography --- Internet pornography --- Right to Internet access --- Internet and children --- Law and legislation --- Prevention --- Child Pornography --- Internet Blocking --- Entscheidungen des Bundesverfassungsgerichts --- Grundgesetz für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland --- Kinderpornografie --- Legislative --- Strafgesetzbuch (Deutschland) --- Zugangserschwerungsgesetz
