This text shows step-by-step how to establish or improve a workplace health surveillance system. It explains how to define objectives, seek organizational support, form a surveillance workgroup, collect data, calculate basic injury and illness statistics, design databases, analyze and interpret surveillance data, set priorities, make protocols for follow-up and case management, market results and give feedback, and evaluate surveillance systems. Surveillance is shown to be an action-oriented tool for decision-making that is key to a successful health and safety program.

This book addresses the pulmonary and non-pulmonary manifestations related to exposure to airborne hazards after the collapse of the World Trade Center. Leading experts consider both short and long term effects on survivors, first responders, and residents of surrounding areas and offer clinical practice guidelines for treatment. Respiratory complications are the most obvious manifestation, but the text additionally covers oncology, psychiatry, and other organ systems for both adults and children. Knowledge of the medical ramifications from the World Trade Center collapse has broad scientific applicability to occupational and environmental medicine, preventive medicine, and epidemiology. With the advent of bioterrorism since 9/11, understanding prevention, treatment, monitoring, and basic and clinical research aspects of particulate matter air pollution is relevant and critically important to being a medical provider. This book will prove useful to pulmonologists, primary care providers, epidemiologists, psychiatrists, occupational and environmental specialists, allergists, immunologists, toxicologists and public policy experts.

""This text provides a comprehensive overview, if not thesis, of the contributing factors to workplace stress and how to revisit [them] and our own mental health. How can nurses and health care workplaces expect to offer health and healing when such basic foundational human dynamics of mental health are not addressed? This work opens the door to both the dynamics and the deep dimensions of the root issues facing humanity and our places of work and play."". - Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN (From the Foreword). The book starts with an overview of the application of ergonomics in different aspects of craft manufacturing, touching upon tools, space, process and then moves into the aspects of ergonomics of craft packaging and displaying. Alongside the book also explains the ergonomic aspects of designing of handicraft products keeping the users of the products in mind, their dimensions, capacity, limitations etc. Each chapter starts with an "overview" and ends with "key points" and exercises to help the readers in applying the principles of ergonomics in handicraft. The last chapter is dedicated to exercises in different areas of handicraft and the ergonomic applications for them, followed by ergonomic design directions to solve them.

This book aims to help the reader who is confused by the multiplicity of diseases with similar symptoms in different patients. Consequently, the chapters are noticeably sign-oriented rather than disease-oriented, each dealing with one of the four cardinal modalities of HRCT presentation;, namely, the reticular, nodular, alveolar and cystic patterns. Each chapter is introduced by a list of diseases, immediately followed by a detailed description, thoroughly illustrated. Each isThe chapters are thoroughly illustrated with high-quality, enlarged images, which, like counterpoint, provide the rhythm to the written text. When dealing with the diseases within each pattern, only the pertinent of themones are taken into account. This is a feature unique to this book, which sees the same disease being introduced even two or three times. Often, clinical presentation, history and HRCT are sufficient for making a diagnosis and defining disease management; in other cases, further investigation is required to obtain a more confident diagnosis, or to stage grade the activity of the disease more precisely. Consequently, the contribution of other techniques involved in diagnostic refinement are highlighted (bronchoalveolar lavage, bronchoscopic or thoracovideoscopic biopsy, open chest surgery).
