"The book proposes a journey through the poetry of Peruvian artist Jorge Eduardo Eielson (1924-2006) throughout its sixty years of production. The analysis is founded on the question of the relationship between language and reality, in tension with the inherited poetic tradition, which operates in the semiotic slippages between the verbal and non-verbal dimensions. The study concentrates on the transformations of the search for transcendence throughout the poems, which take place within the framework of a modern poetics that appropriates a rich intertextual network while resorting to both classical rhetorical procedures and contemporary intermedial artistic forms. The poetic corpus is a selection of texts from the last anthology supervised by the author in 2003 and from the last two collections not included in this anthology, published in 2005. Eielsonian poetry written after 1970 is particularly interesting because of the scarcity of critical approaches in order to analyze the evolution of the artist's poetic proposal after the exhaustion of the symbolist, modernist, avant-garde, and neo-or post-avant-garde heritage in the second half of the twentieth century. These poems do not fit easily into the readings made from this paradigm, and, for this reason, the book faces the question of the understanding of poetry once the lyric of youth has worn out and the experimental advances of the 1960s have been neutralized"
