La crise de l'école qui perdure en France n'est pas simplement de structures, de moyens ou de société : c'est aussi une crise de doctrine. Comme la persistance du conflit entre " pédagogues " et " républicains ". La faillite des réformes successives est liée à cette crise intellectuelle, dont il est urgent de chercher à sortir. Que veut donc dire aujourd'hui " enseigner " ? Que faut-il attendre des élèves ? Quelle culture doit-on leur offrir ? Ces questions appellent une reprise philosophique en vue de laquelle il sera utile de discuter les ouvrages du principal représentant français de la réforme pédagogique, Philippe Meirieu. Menée avec rigueur, cette discussion devrait dégager les principes d'une rénovation enfin réfléchie.
