Der Horizont sinkt in der niederländischen Landschaftsmalerei zu Beginn des 17. Jahrhunderts weit nach unten, der Bildraum öffnet sich in den Panoramen eines Vroom oder van Ruisdael zu allen Seiten. Beide Neuerungen lassen sich in ihrer motivischen und strukturellen Anlage nur vor dem Hintergrund eines disziplinenübergreifenden Wissenschaftsdiskurses gewinnbringend deuten. Ausgehend von der Tatsache, dass die Entgrenzung des Bildraumes in eine Zeit fällt, in der auch die Endlichkeit des Kosmos zur Disposition steht, diskutieren Wissenschaftler aus fünf unterschiedlichen Disziplinen über den wechselseitigen Einfluss philosophischer, mathematischer, theologischer und perspektivischer Raummodelle um 1650. This book discusses examples of the different types of Dutch landscapes painted in the 17th century. From the human narrative within painted landscape ranging from peasants working and relaxing to aristocratic estates where nobles hunted and rode; to Dutch artists discovering the idealised Arcadian landscape influenced by travel to Italy; to the sea which played such a vital role in Dutch consciousness. Dutch masters Isaac van Ostade, Philips Wouwermans, Paulus Potter, Jacob van Ruisdael, the Van de Veldes and Aelbert Cuyp are all included as representative of the Dutch Golden Age.--Publisher.
