Abstract

Long description: With the ongoing transition of the electrical power system to a more sustainable generation structure we need new ideas and solutions for a safe and reliable energy supply. We named the NEIS event Conference on sustainable energy supply and integration of energy storage systems. This implies that the future power system design demands a sustainable approach with several contributions and ideas from different application fields. The NEIS 2019 was the seventh conference event, providing an annual occasion for scientists to present their current work. A special focus of this year`s topics was placed on electrical power grids and grid related aspects such as grid monitoring and protection as well as electro-mobility. The speakers and participants came from South Africa, India, Iran, Poland, Austria and Germany. Every year we have at least one international keynote-speaker to bring new impulse to the participants and enhance the international collaboration within the community.

We named the NEIS event Conference on sustainable energy supply and integration of energy storage systems. This implies that the future power system design demands a sustainable approach with several contributions and ideas from different application fields. The NEIS 2020 was the eighth conference event, providing an annual occasion for scientists to present their current work. A special focus of this years conference was placed on electrical power grids and relevant aspects such as power system planning, management and monitoring, as well as innovative protection methods and electromobility. Three keynote speakers from the UK, Germany and Denmark gave an insight into the newest developments in the field of future power systems and the challenges that we are facing on that way.

Abstract

The book is a collection of manuscripts proposing original and innovative solutions for accurate distributed monitoring systems, related innovative measurement instruments, distribution grid state forecast algorithms, power flow analysis, frequency and voltage control for stability and quality of service of active networks with distributed generation, and communication systems to acquire distributed measurement data, send commands and receive alarms. The introduction of these innovative solutions can pave the way for the effective transformation of MV and LV distribution networks into smart grids. The book aims to provide readers, Ph.D. students as well as research personnel and professional engineers with information not only on theoretical studies of the recent developments but also the practical application of the proposed solutions for smart grid applications both in LV and MV networks.

Abstract

This book includes 15 articles published in the Special Issue "Theoretical Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics" of Symmetry (ISSN 2073-8994). This Special Issue is devoted to original and significant contributions to theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics. The aim was to bring together research papers linking different areas of discrete mathematics and theoretical computer science, as well as applications of discrete mathematics to other areas of science and technology. The Special Issue covers topics in discrete mathematics including (but not limited to) graph theory, cryptography, numerical semigroups, discrete optimization, algorithms, and complexity.
