Abstract

This book constitutes the strictly refereed post-workshop proceedings originating from the Second Australian Workshop on Distributed Artificial Intelligence, held in Cairns, QLD, Australia, in August 1996, as a satellite meeting of PRICAI'96. The 13 revised full papers presented have been selected for inclusion in the book during a very careful and iterated process of reviewing and improvement. Among these papers are three invited ones, by leading scientists, solicited in order to round off the overall presentation and coverage of relevant topics. A wide range of multi-agent systems issues is covered including methodologies, cooperation, conflict resolution, applications, mobility, adaptation, negotiation, and implementations.

Abstract

The International Symposium on Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelli-gence (DCAI´10) is an annual forum that brings together past experience, current work and promising future trends associated with distributed computing, artificial intelligence and their application to provide efficient solutions to real problems. The present edition has been held at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, from 7 to 10 September 2010, within the Congreso Español de Informática (CEDI 2010). Technology transfer in this field is still a challenge, with a large gap between academic research and industrial products. This edition of DCAI aims at contributing to reduce this gap, with a stimulating and productive forum where these communities can work towards future cooperation with social and economi-cal benefits.

Abstract

"This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th European Workshop on Modelling Autonomous Agents in a Multi-Agent World, MAAMAW '96, held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands in January 1996. The concept of agents comprises physical as well as software agents; it emerged at the crossroads of distributed computing, artificial intelligence, and embedded systems. Multi-agent systems are foundational for new models of computing and interaction addressing large-scale open distributed platforms like the World-Wide Web. The 17 revised full papers presented were selected from a total of 51 submissions; they are organized in sections on epistemological and ontological issues, frameworks and architectures, interaction and coordination, emergence, and task-specific analysis."-- PUBLISHER'S WEBSITE.

Abstract

The complexity of systems studied in distributed artificial intelligence (DAI), such as multi-agent systems, often makes it extremely difficult or even impossible to correctly and completely specify their behavioral repertoires and dynamics. There is broad agreement that such systems should be equipped with the ability to learn in order to improve their future performance autonomously. The interdisciplinary cooperation of researchers from DAI and machine learning (ML) has established a new and very active area of research and development enjoying steadily increasing attention from both communities. This state-of-the-art report documents current and ongoing developments in the area of learning in DAI systems. It is indispensable reading for anybody active in the area and will serve as a valuable source of information.

Abstract

Since its conception almost 30 years ago, the BDI (Belief Desire Intention) model of agency has become established, along with Soar, as the approach of choice for practitioners in the development of knowledge intensive agent applications. However, in developing BDI agent applications for over 15 years, the authors of this book have observed a disconnect between what the BDI model provides and what is actually required of an agent model in order to build practical systems. The GORITE BDI framework was  developed to address this gap and this book is written for students, researchers and practitioners who wish to gain a practical understanding of how GORITE is used to develop BDI agent applications. In this regard, a feature of the book is the use of complete, annotated examples. As GORITE is a Java framework,  a familiarity with Java (or a similar language) is assumed, but no prior knowledge of the BDI model is required.

Abstract

st This volume contains papers selected for presentation at the 1 KES Symposium on Agent and Multi-Agent Systems – Technologies and Applications (KES-AMSTA 2007), held in Wroclaw, Poland, May 31 – June 1, 2007. The symposium was org- ized by the Institute of Information Science and Engineering, Wroclaw University of Technology, and KES International, as part of the KES Conference Series. The aim of the symposium was to provide an international forum for scientific - search in the technologies and applications of agent and multi-agent systems. Agents and multi-agent systems are related to the modern software which has long been r- ognized as a promising technology for constructing autonomous, complex and intel- gent systems. A key development in the field of agent and multi-agent systems has been the specification of agent communication languages and formalization of - tologies. Agent communication languages are intended to provide standard decla- tive mechanisms for agents to communicate knowledge and make requests of each other, whereas ontologies are intended for conceptualization of the knowledge - main.
