Meeting children at eye level is not only a question of pedagogical attitude. Designing Spaces for Children shows how architecture and interior design can promote children's development. Based on historical and current reform pedagogical concepts, design principles for the kindergarten construction are outlined, which can also be transferred to other premises such as paediatric practices. Rooms can invite you to discover, promote communication and social interaction, strengthen self-confidence and be a retreat or a raging landscape. For years, the Berlin-based architectural firm baukind has been moving creatively between the strict legal requirements and the architectural possibilities of child-friendly architecture – always with the needs of children in mind. The book presents realized projects such as the Kita Weltenbummler in Berlin and sees itself as an impetus to involve children equally in the design of our environment.
