Abstract

Designing for Growth: A Design Thinking Tool Kit for Managers (D4G) showed how organizations can use design thinking to boost innovation and drive growth. This updated and expanded companion guide is a stand-alone project workbook that provides a step-by-step framework for applying the D4G tool kit and process to a particular project, systematically explaining how to address the four key questions of the design thinking approach. In the field book, Jeanne Liedtka, Tim Ogilvie, and Rachel Brozenske guide readers through the design process with reminders of key D4G takeaways as they progress. Readers learn to identify an opportunity, draft a design brief, conduct research, establish design criteria, brainstorm, develop concepts, create napkin pitches, make prototypes, solicit feedback from stakeholders, and run learning launches. This second edition is suitable for projects in business, nonprofit, and government contexts, with all-new tools, practical advice, and facilitation tips. A new introduction discusses the relationship between strategy and design thinking.

Abstract

This book offers a socio-cultural examination of contemporary creativity studies. Drawing heavily on posthumanist, new materialist and affective theoretics, the author argues in favour of an expansive and sustainable approach to creativity which contributes to an emergent ‘creativity studies’ inter-discipline. It seeks to establish a broader consideration of creativity in socio-culture, that extends beyond, or indeed refutes, the narrowing aperture of entrepreneurship and innovation as synonyms for creativity in economic, cultural and educational contexts and discourses. Drawing on multiple case studies of creative relational and creative ecological empirical research, this book integrates a concern for personal, planetary and geo-political collaboration, as an antidote for ‘innovation for innovation’s sake’. Dan Harris (formerly published as Anne Harris) is Professor, Associate Dean, and Australian Research Council Future Fellow at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. They are an international expert in creativity education and creative methodologies through a combination of creative arts practice and creativity scholarship. Dan’s texts Creativity and Education (2016) and The Creative Turn (2014) are widely-cited texts in the study of the commodification of creativity, its conflation with innovation and creative industries, and in lifespan creative education as a core component of a creative ecologies model.

Abstract

Since the 1970 and 1980s, fanzines have constituted a zone of freedom of thought, of do-it-yourself creativity and of alternatives to conventional media. Along with bands, records and concerts, they became a vital part of the construction of punk 'scenes’, actively contributing to the creation and consolidation of communities. This book moves beyond the usual focus on Anglophone punk scenes to consider fanzines in international contexts. The introduction offers a theoretical, chronological and thematic survey for understanding fanzines, considering their contemporary polyhedral vitality. It then moves to consider the distinct social, historical and geographic contexts in which fanzines were created. Covering the UK, Portugal, Greece, Canada, Germany, Argentina, France and Brazil, as well as a wide range of standpoints, this book contributes to a more global understanding of the fanzine phenomenon.

Abstract

This edited volume brings together a group of international researchers and theorists from various intellectual and analytic traditions to explore the role uncertainty plays in creativity, learning, and development. Contributors to this volume draw on existing programs of research as well as introduce new and even speculative directions for research, theory and practice. Learning and life are filled with uncertainty. Although the experience of uncertainty can cause emotional discomfort or cognitive rigidity, uncertainty serves as a catalyst and condition for change. In this way, uncertainty represents a core facet in the interrelationship among creativity, learning, and development. Considerations for both the benefits and potential costs of uncertainty will be addressed in this volume with an aim of understanding how uncertainty can be better understood in light of creativity, learning, and development. Taken together this volume stands to contribute to our collective understanding of the role that uncertainty plays in learning and life and highlights how conceptualizing and studying uncertainty in new ways can promote positive and lasting change.
