Diese Studie thematisiert die «segnali discorsivi» (dt. «Diskursmarker», «Diskurspartikeln») des Italienischen. Der Autor diskutiert zunächst verschiedene Klassifizierungsansätze und geht zentralen Forschungsfragen wie der kategoriellen Abgrenzung nach. In einer korpusbasierten Detailanalyse veranschaulicht er schließlich das breite Funktionsspektrum der «segnali discorsivi» am Beispiel von «praticamente» und «comunque»: Die Untersuchung von 100 Audio-Aufnahmen zeigt, dass die Partikeln zahlreiche Funktionen auf allen Ebenen des Diskurses (metatextuell, interaktional, kognitiv) übernehmen können. Hierbei untersucht der Autor auch, ob sie abtönend fungieren. Da es sich um auditives Korpusmaterial handelt, kann er zentrale Faktoren wie die Kontextsensitivität und die Prosodie berücksichtigen.

After a period of crisis in the 1960s, Contrastive Analysis has now regained its firm position, although in a different form and with broader goals. This collection of papers reflects the scope of research and the range of interest of linguists who are involved in contrastive linguistics research.
