Long description: Nicht nur Pablo Picasso reagierte mit seinem weltberühmt gewordenen Bild Guernica auf den deutsch-italienischen Angriff auf die gleichnamige baskische Stadt am 26. April 1937. Auch Schriftstellerinnen und Schriftsteller aus aller Welt nahmen zu diesem ersten Luftangriff gegen die Zivilbevölkerung in Europa während des Spanischen Krieges (1936-1939) Stellung. Die vorliegende Studie erschließt – in internationaler, vergleichender Perspektive – erstmals diese äußerst vielfältigen Texte. Im Blickpunkt stehen Gedichte, Romane und andere Prosa wie Reportagen und Aufrufe. Analysiert wird deren ästhetische Vielfalt zwischen Avantgarde und Traditionalismus.
