In this literary study of memoirs describing at first hand the horrors of German concentration camps, the principal question asked is: How did the survivors find the words to talk about experiences hitherto unknown, even unimaginable? En el marco de esta Historia española fuera de las fronteras, quedaba aún pendiente la tarea de explorar de forma más precisa la historia de los españoles exiliados que sufrieron la experiencia de los campos de concentración franceses y, posteriormente, alemanes, durante todo el periodo de la segunda guerra mundial. Le 27 janvier 1945, Auschwitz, le principal camp d'extermination nazi, était définitivement libéré.
