Affichiste majeur de l'entre-deux-guerres, A.M. Cassandre (1901-1968), de son vrai nom Adolphe Mouron, a été loué par Blaise Cendrars " de n'avoir pas seulement été un peintre, mais surtout un des plus fervents animateurs de la vie moderne : le premier metteur en scène de LA RUE ". Débutant en 1923, l'artiste adopte une méthode qu'il qualifie de " géométrique et monumentale " et qui l'a rendu célèbre. Ses affiches pour les trains et les paquebots exaltent le monde moderne. Purisme, cubisme, surréaalisme ont influencé sa créaation, de même que le cinéma et la photographie. L'exposition s'attache à l'oeuvre graphique de l'artiste au cours des années 1920-1930 et présente plus de cent vingts pièces, affiches, maquettes, publicités, illustrations ou spécimens typographiques. http://www.bnf.fr/PAGES/cultpubl/exposition_402.htm
