Repondant au manque de consensus qui regne encore actuellement dans le domaine phraseologique, l'auteur propose de redefinir ici les notions de phraseologie (ou figement) et de collocation (ou semi-figement), en reunissant les litteratures de tradition anglo-saxonne et francophone. Le volet acquisitionnel de l'ouvrage se centre quant a lui sur les productions d'apprenants avances du francais langue etrangere (L2), en particulier sur les deviances au sein des collocations verbo-nominales, encore relativement peu etudiees en francais L2. L'ouvrage presente en outre une methode originale d'analyse parametrique sur corpus (en L1 et en L2) qui permet, d'une part, de traduire en termes quantitatifs des donnees initialement qualitatives et, d'autre part, de combiner l'approche fonctionnelle (via des criteres linguistiques) et statistique (via des mesures d'association lexicale) en phraseologie. Cette methode est decrite avec soin par l'auteur qui guide le lecteur en l'impliquant dans sa demarche exploratoire au fil des pages.

This volume aims to promote a discussion on the definition of collocation that will be useful for lexicographic purposes. Each of the papers the volume contains addresses in detail one or more aspects of three main issues. The first issue concerns, on the one hand, the boundaries between collocations and other word combinations, and the way in which lexicographers convey classifications to dictionary users. The second issue is the possibility, or even necessity, of adapting the definition of collocation to the objectives of different types of dictionaries, taking into account their specific micro- and macro-structural properties and their users' needs. The third issue concerns the methods for collocation extraction. In order to tailor the definition of collocation to the actual dictionary function, it is necessary to develop hybrid methods relying on corpus-based approaches and combining data processing with criteria such as native speakers' evaluation and contrastive analysis.

Collocations are especially needed for translators, especially in the final phase of production of the target language text. This book proposes an integrated methodology, based on the information extracted from dictionaries and corpus, to encode and describe verb collocations in specialized resources. The focus is on verbs since few terminological resources include verb information when they are regarded as the most important lexical and syntactic category in language. The underlying idea of this research is that verbs and their arguments can be classified in a set of semantic categories typical of a given domain; then, when semantic roles and macroroles are specified, it is possible to establish templates that represent the entire lexical subdomain, and to predict the range of verbs.

This edited collection presents the state of the art in research related to lexical combinations and their restrictions in Spanish from a variety of theoretical approaches, ranging from Explanatory Combinatorial Lexicology to Distributed Morphology and Generative Lexicon Theory. Section 1 offers a presentation of the main theoretical and descriptive approaches to collocation.Section 2 explores collocation from the point of view of its lexicographical representation, while Section 3 offers a pedagogical perspective.Section 4 surveys current research on collocation in Catalan, Galician and Basque. Collocations and other lexical combinations in Spanish will be of interest to students of Hispanic linguistics.

The notion of formulaicity has received increasing attention in disciplines and areas as diverse as linguistics, literary studies, art theory and art history. In recent years, linguistic studies of formulaicity have been flourishing and the very notion of formulaicity has been approached from various methodological and theoretical perspectives and with various purposes in mind. The linguistic approach to formulaicity is still in a state of rapid development of the field and they are arranged into three complementary parts. The first part, with three chapters, presents new theoretical and methodological insights as well as their practical application in the development of custom-designed software tools for identification and exploration of formulaic language in texts. Two papers in the second part explore formulaic language in the context of language learning. Finally, the third part, with three chapters, showcases research on formulaic language conducted primarily from corpus linguistic, discourse studies and translation studies perspectives. The volume will be of interest to anyone involved in the study of formulaic language either from a theoretical or a practical perspective.

C'est le premier ouvrage qui se concentre sur la description explicite des deux phénomènes suivants : les dérivations sémantiques et les collocations. Les liens de dérivation sémantique et de collocation tissent un gigantesque réseau connectant les unités lexicales de la langue. Un francophone maîtrisant parfaitement l'expression orale et écrite parcourt instantanément ce réseau et peut s'exprimer ainsi dans une langue véritablement idiomatique. Le LAF sera particulièrement utile à toute personne amenée à rédiger des lettres, rapports, documentation,... Mais il est également un outil précieux pour l'enseignement et l'apprentissage du français. Il permet à ceux qui ont une maîtrise partielle de la langue de parfaire leur apprentissage. En effet, le LAF n'est pas un dictionnaire de décodage : il adopte le point de vue de la production afin d'aider à l'encodage linguistique de la pensée. Afin d'assurer rigueur et cohérence à la description, les auteurs se sont basés sur une approche théorique structurée de la modélisation lexicale. Ils ont cependant pris soin de rendre la description accessible à chacun avec un minimum d'effort : celui requis par la lecture de la partie d'introduction de l'ouvrage.
