PHYSICS --- CHAOS THEORY

The present volume is the first to address the interrelationship between Goethe's scientific thought and work, his ideas on art and literary oeuvre, and chaos and complexity theories. The eleven studies assembled in it treat one or more elements or aspects of this interrelationship, ranging from basic concepts all the way to a model of an aesthetic-scientific methodology. In the process, the authors scrutinize chaos and complexity both as motif and motor of literary texts and nature within various contexts of past and present. The volume should be of interest to literary scholars, scientists, and philosophers of science, indeed, to all those who are interested in the continuities between the humanities and sciences, culture and nature.

"Seemingly unrelated kinds of irregularity take on a new meaning when understood in terms of chaos theory. In Chaos ... James Gleick reveals the science and the scientists behind chaos, telling the story of one of the most significant new waves of scientific knowledge in our time."--Cover.

This volume sets out the basic applied mathematical and numerical methods of chaotic dynamics and illustrates the wide range of phenomena, inside and outside the laboratory, that can be treated as chaotic processes.Originally published in 1986.The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

In this volume, leading experts present current achievements in the forefront of research in the challenging field of chaos in circuits and systems, with emphasis on engineering perspectives, methodologies, circuitry design techniques, and potential applications of chaos and bifurcation. A combination of overview, tutorial and technical articles, the book describes state-of-the-art research on significant problems in this field. It is suitable for readers ranging from graduate students, university professors, laboratory researchers and industrial practitioners to applied mathematicians and phy
