Cancer screening is a prominent strategy in cancer control in the United States, yet the ability to correctly interpret cancer screening data eludes many researchers, clinicians, and policy makers. This open access primer rectifies that situation by teaching readers, in simple language and with straightforward examples, why and how the population-level cancer burden changes when screening is implemented, and how we assess whether that change is of benefit. This book provides an in-depth look at the many aspects of cancer screening and its assessment, including screening phenomena, performance measures, population-level outcomes, research designs, and other important and timely topics. Concise, accessible, and focused, Assessment of Cancer Screening: A Primer is best suited to those with education or experience in clinical research or public health in the United States - no previous knowledge of cancer screening assessment is necessary. This is the first text dedicated to cancer screening theory and methodology to be published in 20 years.

"Mammography is a routine health screening performed 40 million times each year in the United States, yet it remains one of the most deeply contested topics in medicine, with national health care organizations supporting conflicting guidelines. In Mammography Wars, sociologist Asia Friedman examines cultural and medical disagreements over mammography. At issue is whether to screen women under age 50, which is rooted in deeper questions about early detection and the assumed linear and progressive development of breast cancer. Based on interviews with doctors and scientists, interviews with women age 40-50, and newspaper coverage of mammography, Friedman uses the sociology of attention to map the cognitive structure of the "mammography wars," offering insights into the entrenched nature of debates over mammography that often get missed when applying a medical lens. Friedman's analysis also suggests the sociology of attention's unique potential for analyzing cultural conflicts beyond mammography, and even beyond medicine"--

This book provides a practical overview of a central topic in cervical cancer concerning human papillomavirus (HPV), prevention, cervical cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Since the finding of human papillomavirus (HPV) being the cause of cervical cancer and its precursor symptoms, effective screening based on HPV DNA testing and prevention methods by HPV vaccination are established. Furthermore, new surgical methods, radiation therapy, and drug therapy are developed. To summarize the history and the recent advancement, this book is presented in five attractive parts: pathogenesis and epidemiology, cancer screening and prevention strategies, diagnosis and clinical management of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), surgical treatments, and multimodal therapy. Recent Topics on Prevention, Diagnosis, and Clinical Management of Cervical Cancer is an appealing source for gynecologists, gynecologic surgeons, gynecologic pathologists, and gynecologic, clinical, and radiation oncologists. Also, primary care doctors, public health nurses, nurses, and pharmacists involved in cancer and other medical personnel will find the information and challenges presented tempting.

The book is an assimilation of clinical and practical work done at Tata Memorial Hospital, a prestigious tertiary care cancer hospital in our country. It reflects the evolution of Dental Oncology and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and more than 33 years of exclusive maxillofacial prosthodontic experience of Dr. Kanchan Dholam. This book covers the clinical guidelines for treatment, based on sound scientific principles and published literature. It also provides a step-by-step approach in the fabrication of commonly-indicated maxillofacial prostheses. It makes an excellent refresher book in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics for all practicing dental post-graduates who want to know more about the subject. The book also contains valuable contributions in Dental Oncology from senior faculty members of the Division of Head and Neck Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital. This book will be the first Indian/Southeast Asian publication on Dental Oncology and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. None of the available books have presented a real-world situation of Dental Oncology and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. This assumes importance in our country wherein the disease presentation is different, cancer treatment is more extensive, and thus the prosthodontic care required, is more challenging and demanding. Apart from the vast socioeconomic difference between patients, the availability of certain materials and techniques is different, which is covered in this book.

This book covers the diverse complications noted in medical, radiation, surgical and pediatric oncology. The various chapters target the common complications that the clinicians encompass in the practice day in and day out. It assists in identifying/ stratification the patients at higher risk of complications so that they may be offered alternative options or get a de-intensified treatment. It also covers the determinants/predictors-clinical alarm signs or the safety flags associated with specific high-risk procedures. The chapters are designed to offer a preventive strategy to reduce the incidence of complications, such as the early introduction of corrective measures, supportive care measures, and refining the procedure in case of anticipated risk of certain complications. The manual addresses the management strategies of complications and will propose a formulation of treatment policies as per the severity of the disease. Manual includes discussion on evidence-based treatment strategies and recent advances in management. It consists of a summarized algorithm on leadership based on guidelines (if available). Since it is a multimodality approach-based book, it is an exciting read to the students and the practitioners of medical, surgical, radiation, and nursing. It addresses the disclosure of complications and the medicolegally correct way of taking consent for complications.
