Gion A. Caminada has produced architectural work in Surselva, Grisons that is unique in being directly determined by the ecological, geographical and structural engineering premises of the location and the lifestyles of its population. The new edition includes the texts and project collection of Cul zuffel e l'aura dado and is extended to include a selection of more recent projects since 2015.

A special double issue devoted to the world of Gion A. Caminada, known for his minimalist style that mixes modern design with traditional Swiss methods and materials, especially using wood. Featuring seventeen projects spanning the past three decades, the magazine offers a comprehensive overview of Caminada’s body of work, including notable projects such as the Stiva da Morts community mourning place in Vrin, the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum, the Girls’ Boarding School at Disentis Abbey, and a forest hut in Domat – a communal and educational space for the local community and schools. An interview and personal reflection by Caminada himself complete the tribute.

Gion Caminada is well-known far beyond Switzerland's borders: as an architect, whose work is developed out of - and gives new life to - its context. The award-winning renewal of his native community of Vrin, the renaissance of the village of Valendas with its inn and village hall, the buildings in and around Disentis Abbey that contributed to the abbey's revival, and many more. He passes on his experience in his role as a professor of architecture and design at the ETH. His contribution to architecture is being presented at the 2018 Venice Biennale. In this illustrated interview Gion Caminada tells of his path to building, of old villages, of working together with engaged citizens, and of the ideas that drive him forward in life.
