Ce travail propose de traiter l’influence de la culture sur notre pensée et notre perception du monde. Cette étude a été menée dans le souci de comprendre la marge de liberté que nous avions pour penser et percevoir une chose en soi, et la légitimité de notre perception en tant qu’architecte du paysage. Ceci pour estimer à quel degré d’influence nous sommes finalement déterminés, et si au contraire il n’existe pas une certaine autonomie au sein de la pensée et la perception. 

Ainsi dans cet exposé vous pourrez trouver ce qui a fait que l’Homme occidental s’est davantage positionné comme un observateur pourvu d’un intellect capable d’abstraire les différents stimuli rencontrés. Séparant l’esprit du corps, il a fait de la perception du monde un objet d’étude, attribuant aux phénomènes naturels la conséquence de lois physique auxquelles lui-même était soumis. 

A l’inverse l’Homme chinois a utilisé l’expérience sensorielle, son corps au contact du monde comme une boussole. Ramenant le corps en communication permanente avec son esprit, recherchant à les unifier, afin d’augmenter sa capacité à percevoir ce que pouvait lui montrer la nature. Comprenant qu’il était à l’origine de sa perception, vous verrez par quel exercice l’Homme chinois développe et aiguise son appréciation du monde et de lui-même. 

Enfin pour dépasser ces influences nous avons interrogé l’action même de penser en lien avec la perception, pour comprendre si elle-même n’induisait pas une distinction entre la réalité existante et la réalité vécue. Nous verrons également comment le dessin permet de confirmer l’existence d’une pensée visuelle, appliquée par la suite à l’exercice du métier d’architecture du paysage. This essay examines the influence of culture over our state of mind and over the perception we have of the world. It has been carried out with the aim to determine the margin of freedom that we, as landscape architects, can legitimately perceive. This enables us to be aware of the degree of influence which we are inevitably subjected to and, as a corollary, the degree of autonomy we enjoy in our thoughts and perceptions.

In this essay, the reader will thus find out what induced the Occidental man to position himself as a kind of observer benefitting from an intellect which enables him to identify (and do away with) the various stimuli encountered. Separating mind and body, he has turned observation of the world into a subject of study and has explained natural phenomena in the light of laws of nature to which he himself is subjected.

Dissimilarly, the yardstick taken by the Chinese man has been the sensorial experiments of his body in contact with the world: he brings his body in constant relationship with his mind and endeavours to unify them, in order to improves his ability to perceive what nature can reveal. The essay shows that the Chinese man understands how he is himself at the origin of his perception and it describes how he has thereby developed and sharpened his assessment of the world and of himself.

Finally, to go beyond these influences, we have examined the very action of “thinking in connection with perception” in order to determine whether this action does not in itself induce a distinction between the objective reality and the one we perceive. We shall also see how drawing can confirm the existence of a visual thinking, thereafter applied to the art of a landscape architect.
