The purpose of the Ultra-Wideband Short-Pulse Electromagnetics Conference series is to focus on advanced technologies for the generation, radiation and detection of ultra-wideband short pulse signals, taking into account their propagation and scattering from and coupling to targets of interest. This Conference series reports on developments in supporting mathematical and numerical methods and presents current and potential future applications of the technology. Ultra-Wideband Short-Pulse Electromagnetics 8 is based on the American Electromagnetics 2006 conference held from June 3-7 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Topical areas covered in this volume include pulse radiation and measurement, scattering theory, target detection and identification, antennas, signal processing, and communications.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 1996 International Zurich Seminar on Digital Communications, IZS'96, held in Zurich, Switzerland, in February 1996 and focusing on broadband communications. The 26 revised papers were selected from a total of some 70 submissions and give a snapshot of the state of the art in broadband communications. The book is divided into sections on broadband network architectures, designing for quality of service guarantees, protocol support for multimedia/multipoint services, traffic modeling and performance evaluation, fairness in resource allocation, applications, server functions in ATM, satellite and wireless networks, broadband access and switching, and acceptance and congestion control.

Ultra-wideband (UWB), short-pulse (SP) electromagnetics are now being used for an increasingly wide variety of applications, including collision avoidance radar, concealed object detection, and communications. Notable progress in UWB and SP technologies has been achieved by investigations of their theoretical bases and improvements in solid-state manufacturing, computers, and digitizers. UWB radar systems are also being used for mine clearing, oil pipeline inspections, archeology, geology, and electronic effects testing. Ultra-Wideband Short-Pulse Electromagnetics 7 presents selected papers of deep technical content and high scientific quality from the UWB-SP7 Conference, including wide-ranging contributions on electromagnetic theory, scattering, UWB antennas, UWB systems, ground penetrating radar (GPR), UWB communications, pulsed-power generation, time-domain computational electromagnetics, UWB compatibility, target detection and discrimination, propagation through dispersive media, and wavelet and multi-resolution techniques. This book serves as an essential for scientists and engineers working in these applications areas.

International Federation for Information Processing The IFIP series publishes state-of-the-art results in the sciences and technologies of information and communication. The scope of the series includes: foundations of computer science; software theory and practice; education; computer applications in technology; communication systems; systems modeling and optimization; information systems; computers and society; computer systems technology; security and protection in information processing systems; artificial intelligence; and human-computer interaction. Proceedings and post-proceedings of referred international conferences in computer science and interdisciplinary fields are featured. These results often precede journal publication and represent the most current research. The principal aim of the IFIP series is to encourage education and the dissemination and exchange of information about all aspects of computing. For more information about the 300 other books in the IFIP series, please visit www.springeronline.com. For more information about IFIP, please visit www.ifip.or.at.

At the School of Information Technology, KMUTT, we believe that information te- nology is the most important driver of economy and social development. IT can - able better productivity, as well as helping us to save resources. IT is giving rise to a new round of industrial and business revolution. We now can have products and s- vices that once were believed to be beyond reach. Without IT, it is impossible for people to realize their full potential. Businesses worldwide are harnessing the power of broadband communication, which will have a profound and constructive impact on the economic, social devel- ment, education, and almost all aspects of our life. This new era of unified commu- cation presents us with new challenges. This is why we should work together more closely to enhance the exchange of knowledge related to effective application of broadband communication and IT. It is my sincere hope that all contributions to the Third International Conference on Advances in Information Technology (IAIT 2009) will increase our understanding of how we can have effectively apply this emerging technology for the benefit of all people all around the world. I hope IAIT 2009 will also lead to more research that can contr- ute to a better methodology for IT applications in the era of unified communication. I am very grateful to all our keynotes speakers for coming all the way to Thailand.
