This paper examines the effect of finance on long-term economic growth using Bayesian model averaging to address model uncertainty in cross-country growth regressions. The literature largely focuses on financial indicators that assess the financial depth of banks and stock markets. These indicators are examined jointly with newly developed indicators that assess the stability and efficiency of financial markets. Once the finance-growth regressions are subjected to model uncertainty, the results suggest that commonly used indicators of financial development are not robustly related to long-term growth. However, the findings from the global sample indicate that one newly developed indicator-the efficiency of financial intermediaries-is robustly related to long-term growth.

The existence of financial intermediaries is arguably an artifact of information asymmetry. Beyond simple financial transactions, financial intermediation provides a mechanism for information transmission, which can reduce the degree of information asymmetry and consequently increase market efficiency. During the process of information transmission, the bank is able to provide unique services in the production and exchange of information. Therefore, banks have comparative advantages in information production, transmission, and utilisation. This book provides an overview of commercial banking and includes empirical methods in banking such risk and bank performance, capital regulation, bank competition and foreign bank entry, bank regulation on bank performance, and capital adequacy and deposit insurance.

Mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and other stress-related disorders are highly prevalent and even increasing in incidence globally, while access to evidence-based therapy remains limited. Worryingly, health care budgets are further restrained, thus limiting the availability of mental health care even more. Innovative technologies aiming to increase scalability, accessibility, and cost-efficiency of evidence-based mental health treatment, or target hard-to-reach populations, show promising solutions toward preventing or treating such disorders. However, despite considerable progress in this area, more research into innovative technologies and its implementation in mental health care is needed to treat people with—or prevent—mental health disorders. The present Special Issue aims to provide an overview of the latest innovative technological advances in the screening and treatment of mental health as well as their implications for mental health care. Both original research and review papers will inform researchers and clinicians with recent knowledge on innovative technology in the area of psychological treatments of common mental disorders and e-mental health.

Appropriate nutrition is a cornerstone of preventive gerontology. This Special Issue of Nutrients provides new insights on nutritional assessment and potential modifications of nutritional behaviours and supplements to prevent age-associated disorders and to increase life expectancy in different populations of older subjects. It includes five original articles and four systematic reviews. This Special Issue presents several aspects of the assessment of nutritional status and the prevention and treatment of nutritional deficiencies in different populations of older adults. Undoubtedly, future research will deepen our knowledge on this crucial public health issue.
