This thesis by Johanna Wilroth explores auditory attention using EEG (electroencephalography) to address challenges faced by individuals with hearing impairments in noisy environments. The research investigates the brain's ability to focus on a single voice amidst background noise, a phenomenon known as the cocktail party problem. Wilroth examines two datasets where participants were asked to focus on one of two competing voices, using EEG to measure brain activity. The thesis introduces novel methods for improving auditory attention decoding, source localization, and domain adaptation to enhance hearing aid performance. The work aims to bridge the gap between brain activity and hearing aid technology, ultimately benefiting individuals with hearing impairments.
