Die politische Landkarte der hellenistischen Welt veränderte sich im dritten Jahrhundert v. Chr. wiederholt und tiefgreifend. Gerade die Poleis der Ägäis und Kleinasiens waren von vielfachen Krisen und Umwälzungen betroffen, die die üblichen Mechanismen der Absicherung, wie etwa die Angliederung an eine stabile Schutzmacht, beeinträchtigten.Katharina Knäpper untersucht eine der Möglichkeiten, diesen politischen Diskontinuitäten zu begegnen: die territoriale Asylie. Diese ist vorwiegend aus epigraphisch überlieferten Proklamationen des dritten bis ersten Jahrhunderts v. Chr. mit geographischem Fokus auf Kleinasien und der Ägäis bekannt und lässt sich als ein auf Grund der desolaten politischen Situation etabliertes, anpassungsfähiges Instrument des zwischenstaatlichen Verkehrs beschreiben. Knäpper nimmt sowohl das Prozedere der Asylie als auch die Argumentation der beteiligten Akteure in den Blick und analysiert, wie und zu welchem Zweck territoriale Asylie auf dem Wege zahlreicher bilateraler Verhandlungen installiert wurde. Darüber hinaus kontextualisiert sie die jeweiligen Asyliegesuche wie Anerkennungen und ordnet das Phänomen in den Kanon sakral wie säkular legitimierter Strategien der Konfliktbewältigung ein.
