This collective volume aims to highlight the philosophical and literary idea of "apocalypse," within some key examples in the "Slavic world" during the nineteenth and twentieth century. From Russian realism to avant-garde painting, from the classic fiction of the nineteenth century to twentieth century philosophy, not omitting theatre, cinema or music, there is a specific examination of the concepts of "end of history" and "end of present time" as conditions for a redemptive image of the world. To understand this idea means to understand an essential part of Slavic culture, which; however divergent and variegated it may be in general, converges on a specific myth in a surprising manner.

Californie, 2008. Une attaque nucléaire a précipité l'Amérique dans la 3e Guerre mondiale. Face à la pénurie de carburant, la compagnie US-IDent élabore un générateur d'énergie inépuisable, qui altère la réalité et va bouleverser les vies de l'acteur Boxer Santaros, de l'ex-star du X Krysta Now et des frères jumeaux Roland et Ronald Taverner, dont le destin se confond avec celui de l'Humanité toute entière...Le réalisateur du très remarqué "Donnie Darko" délivre ici un film apocalyptique laissant la part belle aux symboles nombreux et variés (bibliques, religieux, cinématographiques,...). L'histoire, complexe à souhait, ne se laisse pas saisir facilement et puise sa force dans un univers onirique que n'aurait pas renié David Lynch. Un film déroutant qui ravira les amateurs de lyrisme, mais agacera peut-être les autres.
