One of the most unusual women of the twentieth century, Meret Oppenheim most famously created the legendary Le Déjeuner en Fourrure, her 1936 assemblage of a tea cup and a fur. But Oppenheim was not just a Surrealist mouthful--though she provided the movement with one of its most recognizable symbols. Like her counterparts Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Andr Breton and Man Ray, she used found materials freely in her artworks, often to the point of creating a critical alienation of the viewer from an otherwise familiar object. Her greater oeuvre has often been subsumed by the dominance of the ubiquitous fur cup, a situation which this publication aims to remedy, presenting a career-spanning selection of witty drawings, paintings, objects, collages, poems and designs for "applied artworks"--fantastic clothes, jewelry and furniture.

In the back alleys of Moscow, forgotten treasures lurk: Utopian buildings, built in the 1920s in the spirit of Russian constructivism. Ruins of another future, reflecting the hopes and aberrations of modernity. Aren't the buildings calling out to us? What do these buildings hold for us? What will be wiped out, once the last ones fall prey to decay or into the hands or real estate-investors? Away From All Suns! follows three Muscovites who are struggling with the buildings' heritage. A journey through time to the revolutionary 1920s and portrait of Russian society today. The filmmaker works with passages of manifestos by Rodchenko, El Lissitzky and Vesnin, as well as rare documentary footage from early Soviet film, among others by Dziga Vertov.

Walter Gropius saw stage work, much as he did architecture, as the interaction of different disciplines in 'orchestrated unity'. From the structural affinity between the two arts, he extrapolated the need to set up a Bauhaus stage. Here, the constitutive elements of 'stage design' were to be investigated and redefined. The Bauhaus stage revolved around Oskar Schlemmer, who was head of the stage workshop from 1923 to 1929. With his Triadic Ballet and Bauhaus dances, he explored the field of tension of 'man in space' and hence the fundamentals of theatrical design in abstract and geometrical experiments with form, colour, sound, movement and light.
