Abstract

This book examines the relationship between educational psychology and neuropsychology. It is based on the findings from two original research studies – a national survey looking at educational psychologists’ views on neuropsychology; and interviews exploring the specialist role of educational psychologists in neuropsychological settings. The book considers key questions such as: Is neuropsychology applicable to educational psychologists’ day-to-day practice, or is it primarily a specialism? What is the role and unique contribution of educational psychologists working in child neuropsychological settings? Why are educational psychologists underrepresented amongst neuropsychologists and what does the training route entail? The book also considers why neuro-based concepts are so appealing to educators and the general public and explores the most prevalent misconceptions and neuromyths in education. Overall, the book aims to provide a unified account of the complex relationship between the disciplines through the voice of educational psychologists themselves and challenges some of the misconceptions about child neuropsychology as a specialism. Emilia Misheva is a practitioner psychologist with a specialist interest in neuropsychology. She completed her doctoral training as a child and educational psychologist at the UCL Institute of Education, UK.

Abstract

Abstract

This book presents for the first time the results of scientific research in the field of special education and special psychology carried out by top experts of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. The range of problems discussed in the book reflects the most relevant areas of development of the education system and psychological and pedagogical assistance to children with special educational needs (SEN). Both scientific and methodological developments provide practitioners with modern means of diagnostic, correctional, developmental, and preventive work. Furthermore, responding to the current challenges, the authors present the results of research on the impact of virtual reality on the health of adolescents, the results of an experiment on the study and formation of financial literacy of high-school kids with developmental disorders, highlight approaches to the prevention of auto aggressive behavior in the adolescent environment, and offer the proven technologies for psychological and pedagogical habilitation and rehabilitation of children with SEN of various nosologic groups and children with somatic pathology studying at a hospital school. The theoretical block of the book includes an analysis of the fundamental problems of today’s pedagogical and social reality: substantiation of conceptual approaches to the construction of an inclusive space, consideration of the basic psychophysiological mechanisms of speech, the formation of a convergent network educational environment and some other problems that can directly or indirectly affect the quality of education, upbringing, and social adaptation of children with SEN. Abstract

This book presents and theorises research findings into why and how school principals play a critical role in engaging parents and their school communities to enhance student learning and wellbeing. It highlights the imperative of parent engagement as evidenced by clear, consistent findings from research over the last fifty years and government reforms, policies and frameworks internationally and nationally in Australia which have been driven by the weight of this evidence. It focuses on a research project conducted from 2016 to 2017, titled 'Principal leadership for parent-school-community engagement in disadvantaged schools'. This project investigated four principals identified as successful in parent engagement based on findings of state-wide survey research of principals and presidents of parents and citizens’ associations in 2014 in Queensland, Australia. This book offers theoretical and empirical evidence based on literature for the qualities successful principals in parent engagement exhibit, and the strategies they take to achieve parent and community engagement. It shows how the concept of agency as achievement can be used by educators and public policy makers to enable school leaders and teachers to adopt qualities and strategies that will engage parents in their child’s learning and wellbeing, so that improved outcomes for their child and schools can result.
