Every move they make is the result of an intens collaboration between writer and researcher Lut Pil and artists Bram Van Breda, Merel Cremers and An-Valerie Vandromme. Together they’ve studied the sensitivities of the inhabited space and how these resonate through various objects and material studies in ceramic, textile and glass. For more than one year they’ve been working in several types of spaces raging from a guesthouse, a hotel room to an abandoned building. Their work and experiences are now brought together in the publication Every move they make.

Beautifully illustrated with pieces from both emerging and established potters that showcase stunning copper oxide-blues, metallic bronzes and manganese-pink crystal glazes, Special Effect Glazes is packed full of recipes to try out: from functional oilspot glazes using iron oxide, to explosive lava glazes. In this informative handbook discover how you can create these fantastic effects and learn the basic chemistry behind glazes in order to adjust and experiment with your unique pieces. Special Effect Glazes is essential for any ceramicist interested in creating eye-catching glazes and wanting to develop their knowledge of glaze-making, or experiment with their own formulas to achieve the perfect finish.

Demystified: The European Ceramic Workcentre as Centre of Excellence' deciphers for the first time the specific and fundamental reasoning for the successes behind this world leader. It describes the complex system of operation that exists throughout the entire organisation, a system that has matured and been refined over the course of the previous four decades. It explains how such an ideal working environment has developed, why this is unique to the EKWC, and why such excellence in practice is difficult to find in other related organisations around the world. Rather than focus attention on the already documented, innumerable results and artefacts of countless collaborations and working partnerships over previous decades, this survey describes with text and a comprehensive image base how it is that such results have been achieved. It explains how the nature of this work is influenced by prevailing circumstances and decision-making, be they of a logistical, directorial or theoretical nature. It is a demystification of previously unidentified interrelationships which explains how the interactive nature of an organisation such as the EKWC impacts on those working within it, and subsequently how it influences a much wider community outside.

Once upon a time pottery schools saw an increase in enrolments whenever the film Ghost aired on television. Today it is all year round. Not since the 1970s has there been this level of interest and appreciation for pottery and ceramics. The return to the handmade has been driven by our increasingly digital lives and there are now more makers, sellers and collectors than ever. There is also a new desire for unique objects made by hand and the imperfections associated with the marks of the maker. Pottery is the vehicle that most aptly captures this authenticity. From decorative pieces to the primarily functional to sculptural works pushing the boundaries of the medium, Clay surveys the richly creative output of over 50 studio potters from around the world. It is a celebration of a new generation of artisans working in clay, a snapshot not necessarily of what is happening at elite gallery level, but rather a behind-the-scenes look at the unique and eclectic offerings from small studios around the world.
