Le mécénat " inventé " par un conseiller de l'empereur Auguste, Caïus Maecaenus, esthète et protecteur des Belles Lettres, qui lui laisse son nom, fut longtemps réservé à la protection des arts et des activités relevant du talent. Plus récemment, les mécènes, qu'ils soient des citoyens, des associations ou des entreprises, ont porté leur générosité sur d'autres domaines que l'art : la recherche, l'innovation, l'éducation, la solidarité, l'environnement, le sport... sont ainsi devenus objets de mécénat. Cet ouvrage montre comment, depuis plusieurs années, le mécénat, adossé à différentes structures et institutions, s'est ouvert, professionnalisé et internationalisé, si bien que sa place dans nos sociétés ne cesse de se renforcer.
