Alles wat beweegt of trilt is in de een of andere vorm te beschrijven als dynamisch systeem. Een van de grote, recente ontdekkingen is dat eenvoudig lijkende dynamische systemen in hevige mate onvoorspelbaar gedrag kunnen vertonen. Dat gedrag noemen we chaos. Het blijkt voor te komen in zeer uiteenlopende processen zoals bevolkingsgroei van bepaalde diersoorten, veranderingen in de economie of de beweging van kleine planeten in ons zonnestelsel. Dit boekje is bedoeld als een kennismaking met chaostheorie. Er worden een aantal belangrijke voorbeelden behandeld met aan het einde een discussie van toepassingen.
