Abstract

Benchmarks, a 360-degree assessment, has been used by approximately 16,000 organizations and over 200,000 managers. Data collected through its administration has resulted in large comprehensive databases that have provided the basis for numerous studies. These annotations on published research were written for anyone who is interested in the research leading to the development and refinement of Benchmarks, the interpretation of the assessment's results, or the relationship of Benchmarks to other psychological assessments.

Abstract

Strategic 360 Feedback is defined as (a) having content derived from the organization's strategy and values; (b) creating data that are sufficiently reliable and valid to be used for decision-making; (c) being integrated into talent management and development systems; and (d) being inclusive of all candidates for assessment. The handbook contains 31 chapters by leading practitioners in the field, organized into five major sections: 360 for decision making, 360 for development, methodology and measurement, organizational applications (case studies), and critical and emerging topics. It presents viewpoints from academics, scientists, practitioners, and consultants on best practices in the design, implementation and evaluation of many forms of multirater processes and technologies currently used to support talent management systems.

Abstract

"In response to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2014, which directed the Secretary of Defense to assess "the feasibility of including a 360-degree assessment [360] approach... as part of performance evaluation reports," the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (OUSD/P&R) asked the RAND Corporation to provide an outside assessment of the advisability of using 360s for evaluation purposes in the military. In addition, OUSD/P&R also requested information on the role of 360s more broadly. Thus, this report explores the pros and cons of using 360s for evaluation and development purposes in the military."--Page 4 of cover.
