Ik heb geen talent voor nostalgie. Dat neemt niet weg dat mijn jeugd een paradijs was. Zo simpel is het. Geen enkel andere omschrijving dekt de lading. Ik was omgeven door jongens en meisjes met een ware obsessie voor goede, tegendraadse gitaarklanken. Iedereen die ik kende was met muziek bezig. En we konden elkaar allemaal ontmoeten in Het Lintfabriek. Gekust door de goden waren we. En we wisten het niet. Tenminste: we konden zelf niet helemaal inschatten hoe gekust door de goden we echt waren. ‘Youth is wasted on the young’, schreef Oscar Wilde ooit. Dat is niet helemaal waar. Als ik terugblik hebben we weinig gemorst met onze jeugd, maar een mens vergeet uiteraard veel van de verveling, de dode momenten, de voorspelbaarheid van een leven op school. 

De magie van Het Lintfabriek was de magie van mijn jeugd.

Een verhaal over een broeihaard van jong talent aan de rand van de stad. Een ruimte waar talent zich kon ontwikkelen en tonen. Een oude fabriek waar jongeren de ruimte kregen om in alle vrijheid en op eigen kracht een eigen(wijze) werking op te zetten.

Wat Jean-Pierre Vets in de jaren tachtig in Kontich lanceerde, blijft tot op heden nazinderen. Zijn aanmoedigingen om je als jongere te tonen in alle vrijheid én tegendraadsheid, heeft velen voor het leven gevormd. Je voelt in dit boek de kracht van zijn visie door alle interventies en verhalen heen. Voor Jeroen Olyslaegers betekende het de start van zijn artistieke en professionele loopbaan. Kurt Overbergh beschouwde Het Lintfabriek als zijn lief (maar trouwde later als artistiek directeur met de Ancienne Belgique). Ook in het werk van de talrijke artiesten en in het dagelijks leven van bezoekers kiemt nog steeds het zaadje dat Jean-Pierre in 1982 plantte. 

Eric Bouwens, Peter Daems en Katrijn Sermeus vonden elkaar in de ambitie om dit bijzondere verhaal van Het Lintfabriek neer te schrijven en te delen. Sinds 2019 zijn ze aan de slag met het ordenen van het archief, verzamelden ze informatie en anekdotes en stelden ze de historiek scherp. Die zoektocht verliep overigens geheel in overeenstemming met de wetmatigheden van een vrijplaats: ietwat stuurloos met een veelheid aan meningen en discussies, soms emotioneel maar vooral met veel begrip, liefde en passie.

Let wel: dit boek is (spoiler) niet het definitieve verhaal.

Trust is a determinant of efficient and effective cooperation between organisations. The same holds true for cooperation in a judicial context, a challenging context due to certain particularities. There is no hierarchical arrangement between the organisations, independent decision making needs to be ensured, the consequences of malfunctioning are detrimental to society, and cooperation is mandated by law. This means that organisations are heavily interdependent but they have no control over each other’s functioning, nor the possibility to cease cooperation when relations turn sour.In order to understand how interorganisational trust works in a judicial context, this book examines trust within the judicial youth care system. How do police officials, juvenile judges, juvenile prosecutors, and youth counsellors evaluate each other’s trustworthiness? Which organisational characteristics influence this evaluation? Is trust desirable in this context? Answers to these questions are found through a step-by-step evaluation of the observed trust process in this setting. Trust dynamics in this particular context are revealed, and valuable knowledge is acquired about trust in general, a social force that remains difficult to grasp.This study is a first in-depth analysis of the trust process in the context of judicial cooperation. Relevant for both practitioners and academics, it provides new insights into the trust phenomenon, as well as into cooperation between judicial organisations.
