Discours ascétiques d'Isaac de Ninive (Abba Isaac le Syrien) : historique et édition critique de la version grecque. Le terminus ante quem de la traduction, du syriaque vers le grec (ainsi que l’arabe et le géorgien), des Homélies ascétiques d'Isaac de Ninive, se situe à la fin du VIIIe s., et son terminus post quem, est représenté par le plus ancien manuscrit grec conservé, le Parisinus Suppl. gr. 693 (fin du IXe s.), qui provient de la laure de Saint Sabas en Palestine. Complet à l'origine, ce manuscrit n'a été conservé que sous une forme lacunaire. La traduction grecque a été effectuée à partir d'un manuscrit appartenant à la tradition syriaque occidentale et très précisément syro-melkite (dont les principaux manuscrits conservés sont le Parisinus syr. 378, le Sinaiticus syr. 24 -plusieurs folios de ces deux manuscrits ont été incorporés à l'Ambrosianus A 296 inf.-, le Sinaiticus syr. 52, et le Vat. syr. 125). Outre la tradition manuscrite grecque, l’édition critique de la version grecque a été établie en prenant également en considération la tradition syriaque ; des variantes significatives du texte grec critique par rapport au corpus syriaque ont été consignées en bas de page ; quelques mots grecs, corrompus avec le temps, ont été directement corrigés dans le texte.

Die vorliegenden Bände veröffentlichen die Briefe 1 und 2 des ostsyrischen Patriarchen Timotheos erstmals auf breiter Handschriftenbasis und mit einer Übersetzung in einer modernen Sprache. Diese vergleichsweise langen Texte sind eigentliche Traktate. Brief 1 beschäftigt sich mit der Taufe, insbesondere mit der Frage, ob erneut getauft werden muss, wer von einer anderen Konfession zur ostsyrischen Kirche übertritt. Brief 2 richtet sich an Bokhtisho', den damaligen Oberarzt des Kalifen, und widmet sich der Seele. Beide Texte sind wichtige Dokumente für die Rekonstruktion der damaligen Lehre von der Taufe resp. von der Seele. An Brief 1 ist ein sogenannter Cento angeschlossen, deraus Zitaten von Timotheos zusammengesetzt ist und dessen Tauflehre leicht verschärft. In der Einleitung werden erstmals die ursprüngliche Reihenfolge des Briefcorpus und die mutmasslichen Redaktionsvorgänge rekonstruiert.
