Internasjonal handel har helt siden vikingtiden vært viktig for norsk økonomi. Selv om enigheten om hovedlinjene i norsk handelspolitikk har vært stor, finnes det også motsetninger. Ett dilemma er at offensive og konkurransedyktige eksportnæringer (som sjømat) ønsker en liberal handelspolitikk for å få tilgang til andre lands markeder, mens defensive næringer (som landbruk) frykter konkurranse og ønsker beskyttelse. Hvordan skal politikere og myndigheter ta hensyn til begge næringer på en gang? Er Norges beskyttelse på landbruksområdet til skade for eksportnæringer som sjømat, eller kan de ulike interessene ivaretas i full harmoni? Denne boken presenterer for første gang en dyptgående og tverrfaglig analyse av interessekonflikter i norsk handelspolitikk, med bidrag fra økonomi, historie og statsvitenskap. Den spenner fra historiske til dagsaktuelle problemstillinger, og inneholder omfattende materiale om norsk handelspolitikk de siste 150 år. The acclaimed historian explores the myths and realities of life for Jews in the Arab world from the mid-nineteenth century through the twentieth. In the 1850s, it was widely believed that Jewish life in Arab lands was peaceful. Jews were protected by law and suffered much less violence, persecution, and inequality. But in this revelatory history, Georges Bensoussan takes a nuanced looks through the history of Jewish-Arab relations in Arab countries. He finds that there is little truth to the myth, and instead shows a history of interrelationship that is not only diverse, but deals with local differences in cultural, religious, and political practice. Bensoussan traces this complex history from 1850 through both world wars and on to the establishment of Israel and the Arab Wars. A new afterword continues the history of Jewish and Arab relations into the present day. Through this long-view analysis, Bensoussan has determined that the history of Jews in Arab countries is a history of slowly disintegrating relationships, increasing tension, violence, and persecution.

Interpersonal violence has been the focus of research within the social sciences for some considerable time. Yet inquiries about the causes of interpersonal violence and the effects on the victims have dominated the field of research and clinical practice. Central to the contributions in this volume is the idea that interpersonal violence is a social action embedded in responses from various actors. These include actions, words and behaviour from friends and family, ordinary citizens, social workers and criminal justice professionals. These responses, as the contributors to this volume all show, make a difference in terms of how violence is understood, resisted and come to terms with in its immediate aftermath and over the longer term. Bringing together an international network of scholars and practitioners from a range of disciplines and fields of practice, this book maps and expands research on interpersonal violence. In doing so, it opens an important new terrain on which social responses to violence can be fully interrogated in terms of their intentions, meanings and outcomes. .
