This fourth edition of Understanding Radiography not only contains updated and refreshed material on familiar imaging technology, it also provides thorough explanations with many original illustrations of high speed CT imaging, PACS networks, computerized and direct digital radiography. Further, it contains new insights that will help prepare students for board exams. Experienced technologists will benefit through a broader understanding of the associated terminology, and how these technologies can be used to provide the highest level of imaging services possible. Chapters have undergone revis

Two 3D Imaging Systems Performance Evaluation Workshops have been held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) - the first in 2003 and the second in 2005. These workshops were conducted in an effort to determine the need for standard test methods for evaluating 3D imaging systems (previously referred to as LADAR - LAser Detection and Ranging - systems), to determine the types of measurements and test methods required, to provide a forum to discuss the on-going efforts in this area, and to initiate the process towards standardization of these test methods or protocols. To continue the effort, NIST conducted a 3rd Workshop on the Performance Evaluation of 3D Imaging systems on March 2-3, 2006. This report presents the proceedings from the third workshop.

It is well-known that speckle is a multiplicative noise that degrades image quality and the visual evaluation in ultrasound imaging. This necessitates the need for robust despeckling techniques for both routine clinical practice and teleconsultation. The goal for this book is to introduce the theoretical background (equations), the algorithmic steps, and the MATLAB (TM) code for the following group of despeckle filters: linear filtering, nonlinear filtering, anisotropic diffusion filtering and wavelet filtering. The book proposes a comparative evaluation framework of these despeckle filters based on texture analysis, image quality evaluation metrics, and visual evaluation by medical experts, in the assessment of cardiovascular ultrasound images recorded from the carotid artery.
