Collaboratively authored by international experts and innovators, this book serves as a comprehensive introduction to flexible bronchoscopy in children, a guide to normal and abnormal bronchoscopy findings, and as the first pediatric bronchoscopy text to describe the array of innovative technologies now being utilized in advanced diagnostic and interventional bronchoscopy programs. Flexible bronchoscopy is a core clinical service provided by academic pediatric pulmonary medicine programs and a critical skill that trainees are expected to develop. The role of flexible bronchoscopy in the care of children with disorders of the respiratory tract has evolved rapidly over the past decade due to technological advances in diagnostic and therapeutic instruments. While many of these tools were designed for adult patients, pediatric pulmonologists have adapted them to meet the unique needs of children. The book is organized into three sections: the history and fundamentals of flexible bronchoscopy; the role of flexible bronchoscopy in evaluation of pediatric respiratory tract disorders; and advanced diagnostic and interventional bronchoscopy. Throughout, images and videos enhance the text and provide invaluable perspective. This is an ideal guide for practicing pediatric pulmonologists and trainees, and will also prove useful to pediatric anesthesiologists, intensivists, otolaryngologists and respiratory therapists. .

The field of interventional bronchoscopy is rapidly expanding and has emerged as a new and exciting subspecialty in pulmonary medicine. To date, the impact of interventional bronchoscopy procedures has been felt in diagnosis, staging, and management of lung cancer, the most lethal cancer worldwide. Interventional Bronchoscopy: A Clinical Guide provides a state-of-the art description of interventional bronchoscopy procedures, addressing the scientific basis, indications, techniques, results, complications, and cost issues. Chapters address the current status, the advantages of new techniques and, most importantly, when to choose new techniques over the existing techniques. Each chapter will discuss the future of these procedures. Interventional Bronchoscopy: A Clinical Guide is an essential resource for a successful interventional pulmonology service and will be useful for the bronchoscopist, anesthesiologist, radiologist, thoracic surgeon and oncologist as well as practicing pulmonologists who do not perform these procedures but have to make decisions regarding appropriate referral of their patients to advanced airway centers.

Interventions in Pulmonary Medicine is an important new volume that addresses all areas of interventional pulmonology, a minimally invasive endoscopic way to diagnose and treat lung disorders. This volume contains dedicated chapters that outline the many issues related to lung cancer, both in early and advanced stages, from diagnosis to personalized treatment. It also covers bronchoscopic therapeutic options to benign conditions that are highly prevalent, such as COPD and asthma. Techniques described in this volume are: laser therapy, argon plasma coagulation therapy, cryotherapy, brachytherapy, placement of intrapleural drainage systems, endoscopic treatment of emphysema, stents in the airway, and thermoplasty for bronchial asthma. Diagnostic procedures that are covered are: medical thoracoscopy, flexible and rigid bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, electromagnetical navigation, and trends in personalized treatment for lung cancer and other benign lung conditions. Chapters are written by experts and the developers of the techniques that are currently considered gold standard. Evidence-based reviews are presented for all topics and indications, and contraindications are discussed. Interventions in Pulmonary Medicine is a must have for pulmonologists, endoscopists, pulmonary oncologists, ENT physicians, thoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, and intensive care specialists and their teams.

It has been 25 years since the first reports on endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) began to appear in the medical literature. The technology involves placing an ultrasound transducer at the tip of an endoscope, which allows for ultrasound imaging to be performed from within the gastrointestinal (GI) lumen. It became quickly apparent that for purposes of thoracic applications and cancer staging that smaller and dedicated bronchoscopes for ultrasound imaging and procedure guidance was required and subsequently were developed. Progress in instrumentation design and clinical research continue to expand the potential utility of this still relatively new method. Current indications for EBUS and EUS in oncology can be divided into several main categories: cancer staging; tumor diagnosis and guidance of therapeutic interventions . All the authors of Endobronchial Ultrasound: An Atlas and Practical Guide have helped to establish the field, are well published and have taught multiple courses in bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound for many years, helping to disseminate the prerequisite knowledge in order to properly apply the technology for patients.. Among the topics these experts discuss are: basic principles of TBNA - staging principles in lung cancer - technique and anatomy of radial ultrasound - ultrasound for interventional procedures - ultrasound for peripheral lesions - EBUS TBNA bronchoscopy - ultrasound as a therapeutic instrument Endobronchial ultrasound has received explosive attention amongst pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons and gastroenterologists over the past few years and technical modifications continue to lead to the potential for ubiquitious use.

This book summarizes the branch tracing method for bronchoscopic diagnosis. Cytopathological and histopathological diagnoses are essential to making prognoses and selecting appropriate treatment for peripheral pulmonary lesions, notably lung cancer. In order to collect cell and tissue samples from peripheral pulmonary lesions for cytopathological and histopathological diagnoses, exfoliative cytodiagnosis and biopsy under bronchoscopy with endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) are currently used worldwide. Bronchial Branch Tracing highlights how to identify the bronchial branches that lead to peripheral pulmonary lesions and offers a valuable guide for all respiratory physicians, as well as surgeons, who frequently perform bronchoscopies, helping them understand the method and improve their technique.
