Abstract

Comprising of sketchbook drawings, paintings, architectural models, and sculpture dating from 1974 to the present day, DIRTY CORNER focuses on the consistent concert in Anish Kapoor's work with the void: as vertiginous fall, as wound and as origin. Featuring previously unpublished material, this volume reveals the integral contiguity of these issues in Kapoor's work and offers an invaluable insight into the artist's practise.--fascia.

Abstract

Born in Bombay and living in London since the early 1970's, he has exhibited worldwide and has works in many important public collections including the Tate Gallery, London and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Kapoor represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1990, where he won the prestigious Premio Duemila and in 1991 was awarded the Turner Prize. The artist uses different media to explore his vision including stone, metal, marble, pigment and fibreglass.Yet these materials are magically fashioned, polished and coloured into non-objects which invoke the sublime, a condition of emptiness and darkness.

Out of minimalism: the referential cube : conceptualising sculptures by Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor and Rachel Whiteread
