Le « travail du deuil » est devenu une banalité. L’objet du deuil, prétend-on, est substituable. Voilà le credo qu’il s’agit d’interroger. D’abord avec Philippe Ariès, en replaçant cette version psychanalytique dans son contexte historique : comme une tentative de survie de la mort romantique à l’instant même (1914-1918) où elle laisse place à la mort sèche. Puis, lisant en détail l’interprétation d’Hamlet donnée par Lacan, Allouch avance ici la thèse opposée : l’objet du deuil est insubstituable. Le deuil n’est pas changer d’objet mais modifier le rapport à l’objet. La lecture d’une nouvelle de Kenzaburo Ôe vient préciser le concept de gracieux sacrifice de deuil. En filigrane de ces trois études particulières, l’ombre grise d’un enfant mort vient tendre ses filets de rêves et de cauchemars.
