Het ontwerp voor het legendarische kunstenaarshuis Maison d’artiste vormt één van de sleutelwerken van de Nederlandse avant-garde beweging De Stijl. Het ontwerp is in 1923 gemaakt door schilder Theo van Doesburg en architect Cornelis van Eesteren en toonde waar De Stijl naar streefde: een nieuwe leefomgeving door het harmonisch samengaan van schilderkunst en architectuur. 'Maison d’artiste. Een onvoltooid icoon van De Stijl' onderzoekt het revolutionaire culturele belang van het ontwerp, de betekenis voor de geschiedenis van De Stijl en bespreekt de dilemma’s rond hedendaagse realisatie van het niet gebouwde ontwerp in vergelijking met andere onvoltooide ontwerpen van bekende twintigste-eeuwse architecten als John Hejduk en Le Corbusier.
