At least since the publication of Burckhardt’s seminal study, the Renaissance has commonly been understood in terms of discontinuities. Seen as a radical departure from the intellectual and cultural norms of the ‘Middle Ages’, it has often been associated with the revival of classical Antiquity and the transformation of the arts, and has been viewed primarily as an Italian phenomenon. In keeping with recent revisionist trends, however, the essays in this volume explore moments of profound intellectual, artistic, and geographical continuity which challenge preconceptions of the Renaissance. Examining themes such as Shakespearian tragedy, Michelangelo’s mythologies, Johannes Tinctoris’ view of music, the advent of printing, Burgundian book collections, and Bohemian ‘renovatio’, this volume casts a revealing new light on the Renaissance. iMinds beschikt over een Virtual wall, een testbed bestaande uit een honderdtal general purpose machines die op een flexibele manier verbonden kunnen worden via een centrale switch om netwerkexperimenten uit te voeren. Ondanks dit grote aantal machines, blijft het emuleren van zeer grote netwerken een probleem. In de literatuurstudie van deze masterproef worden de verschillende mogelijkheden onderzocht om meerdere machines te emuleren op een enkele fysieke machine. Er wordt daarna dieper ingegaan op de Linux Containers techniek. Linux Containers kunnen gebruikt worden om meerdere systeembronnen te isoleren in het systeem. Het isoleren van de netwerkmodule in de Linux kernel emuleert een nieuwe netwerkknoop, deze netwerkknopen kunnen gebruikt worden om de vereiste grote netwerktopologieën te emuleren. Deze masterproef zorgt voor een framework waarbij het aanmaken en emuleren van dergelijke grote netwerktopologieën met behulp van de Linux Containers techniek geautomatiseerd kan worden. The virtual wall at iMinds is a testbed that consists of a hundred general-purpose machines that can be deployed in a flexible way. These machines are mainly used for research: creating networking environments and research the behaviour of various protocols. Despite the hundred machines, it still takes a lot of effort to emulate larger networking environments. This thesis explores the various ways to emulate multiple machines on a single physical machine and it focuses on the Linux Containers technique. Linux Containers can be used to isolate multiple resources of the system. Isolating the networking module in the Linux kernel emulates a new network node in the setup what is exactly what we need if we want to emulate large networking environments.

In deze masterproef wordt een webservice ontwikkeld die gebruikersdata verwerkt, bewaart en beheert. Deze data is afkomstig van mobiele diensten en applicaties. Het succes van deze mobiele diensten en applicaties wordt namelijk bepaald door de gebruikerservaring, uitgedrukt door Quality of Experience parameters. Het zijn voornamelijk deze parameters in combinatie met de Quality of Service parameters die worden geanalyseerd. Voor de opslag van de gebruikersdata wordt er een comparatieve studie gemaakt tussen verschillende dataformaten. De dataformaten die worden vergeleken zijn HBase, mysql, Cassandra en mongoDB. De uiteindelijke keuze wordt gebaseerd op de kenmerken van de doorgestuurde data. Er wordt beschreven hoe de data wordt opgeslagen en welke technieken gebruikt worden om de data op te vragen en te verwerken tot een analyseerbare voorstelling. Hiervoor wordt er gebruik gemaakt van Apache Hadoop en Apache Hive. Uiteindelijk kan de webservice worden gebruikt om de data te analyseren zodat bijvoorbeeld bepaalde evoluties in de gebruikerservaring kunnen worden gedetecteerd. The development of a web service for storing, managing and processing user data will be documented in this thesis. The user data comes from mobile services and applications. The success of these mobile services and applications is determined by the user experience, expressed by Quality of Experience parameters. It is primarily these parameters in combination with the Quality of Service parameters that are being analyzed. For the storage of this data, a comparative study is made between different data formats. HBase, mysql, Cassandra and mongoDB will be compared. The final choice will be based on the characteristics of the transmitted data. It describes how the data is stored and what techniques are used to retrieve and process the data. This data will be formatted into an analyzable representation. Apache Hadoop and Apache Hive will be used to process the data. An analyst can use the web service to retrieve data. This data can be used to detect, for example an evolution in the user experience.
