Abstract

This volume presents the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Computers for Handicapped Persons (ICCHP '94), held in Vienna, Austria in September 1994. ICCHP '94 was organized by the Austrian Computer Society and the Rehabilitation Engineering Group at the Vienna University of Technology with the support of IFIP, CEPIS, BSC, GI, SI, ACM, and IEEE. The book contains 95 refereed contributions, including 9 scientific posters and 13 short reports, and addresses all current aspects of computers for handicapped persons and human-computer interaction from the point of view of human disabilities.

Abstract

Welcome to the 10th ICCHP 2006! Since the 1980s, computer technology has become a key technology for people with disabilities, o?- ing functionalities to overcome barriers and take part in more and more areas of society. Starting with handicraft and trials, a new research and - velopment ?eld has been established known today as ˜assistivetechnologies'(AT). Basedonstandard information and communication technology (ICT) the ?eld has increasingly made impact on mainstream areas and establishes - accessibility', ˜e-inclusion' and ˜design for all' as key concepts for an open and democraticsociety.TheprogressinICTandAT signi?cantlypushesforwardthe disability rights and independent living movement. The obvious bene?ts for the targetgrouphelp to understand the way we designthe emerging information - ciety, which determines accessibility for and inclusion of people with disabilities. The motto of the 10th ICCHP, ˜equality = e- Quality: Equal Access to the Information Society Depending on the Quality of ICT and AT,' - ?ectsthisdevelopment.ICCHP'smissionistos- port this process. ICCHP has been one of the ?rst meetingplacesforpioneersestablishingthe?eld.It supportstodaytheinterdisciplinarydiscussionand presentation of research and development which is inevitable when aiming at better quality of life for peoplewithdisabilities.ICCHPisproudofitsrole.
