"吴下方言考"十二卷,清武進胡文英撰.全書收吴中方言詞九百九十三條,依韻排列,考證源流,引書三百餘種,計十餘萬言,前後歷時近三十年始成書,這是繼揚雄"方言"之後的别開生面之作.是我國較早的釋義,考源的方言詞典.胡文英,宇繩崖,生卒年月不詳,約生活於雍正,乾隆之世.乾隆十七年壬申(1752年),游宦於東之端州,四十八年癸卯(1783年),寫過"吴下方言考"識語,其生平餘無可考.
