Abstract

This book is a comparison of the history and politics of two sister societies, comparing Canada with Australia, rather than, as is traditional, with the United Kingdom or the United States. It is representative of a particular interest in promoting more contact and exchange among Canadian and Australian scholars who were investigating various features of the two societies. Because some of them were individually involved in aspects of federalist studies, an examination of the early evolution of federalism in what once were the two sister dominions seemed quite an appropriate area in which to begin comparisons. The book discusses Canadian federalism from about 1864 to 1880 and Australian federalism from about 1897 to 1914. It examines the background and changes wrought on early Canadian federalism and early Australian federalism.

Abstract

This Special Issue includes papers on physical phenomena, such as wind-driven flows, coastal flooding, and turbidity currents, and modeling techniques, such as model comparison, model coupling, parallel computation, and domain decomposition. These papers illustrate the need for modeling coastal ocean flows with multiple physical processes at different scales. Additionally, these papers reflect the current status of such modeling of coastal ocean flows, and they present a roadmap with numerical methods, data collection, and artificial intelligence as future endeavors.

Abstract

This documentary addresses how the United States Army of 1950 fought in the Korean peninsula, while accentuating doctrine pertinent to today's U.S. Army. Following the North Korean invasion of South Korea, United States Army and United Nations forces helped the Republic of Korea fight for its existence. Under the U.S. Eighth Army, allied forces repulsed the North Korean invasion in June of 1950. After advancing deep into North Korea, the forces allied with South Korea withdrew in wake of Chinese intervention in late-1950. Under the command of General Matthew B. Ridgway, allied forces attempted to regain the offensive--resulting in the battle at the Twin Tunnels.

Abstract

Using the recently developed Battle of Stalingrad Virtual Staff Ride, Army University Press developed a multimedia historical documentary of the battle through the lens of current doctrine. Army University Press produced this documentary to make "history come to life" while illustrating doctrinal points of large scale combat operations from FM 3-0 and other doctrinal publications. This video series examines the Battle of Stalingrad and the challenges of operating in dense urban terrain. The second episode of the Stalingrad series analyzes the fight for the Commissar's House located near the Barrikady Factory.
