Augustus schuf durch das Prinzipat eine neuartige Form der Monarchie, die über das Mittelalter hinaus bis in die Neuzeit als Kaisermodell diente. Die Initialisierung der Monarchie in Rom ist somit mehr als ein reiner Epocheneinschnitt in der Geschichte des Römischen Reiches, vielmehr war es ein Schritt, der die weitere Weltgeschichte auf vielen Ebenen beeinflussen sollte. Die Bedeutung des ersten römischen Kaisers in allen Epochen von der Antike bis heute wird hier von renommierten Althistorikern, Archäologen und Altphilologen betrachtet. Die interdisziplinäre Herangehensweise gibt frische Impulse, die nicht nur das Leben und Wirken Augustus? in einem neuen Licht erscheinen lassen, sondern auch sein näheres Umfeld, insbesondere die erste Kaiserin Livia, und die Auswirkungen auf das Römische Reich aus ungewohnter Perspektive beleuchten.

Thucydides' History of the Peloponnesian War is considered in both history and political science as a text of fundamental disciplinary relevance. However, neither discipline takes the other discipline into account during debates about Thucydides. This collection addresses this inter-disciplinary gap, asking how can and should the two disciplines approach Thucydides in the 21st century. This collection gives the reader an overview of recent scholarly work, interests, and developments in both disciplines with regard to Thucydides. It also establishes the question of 'political order' as a common theme in relation to Thucydides for historians and political scientists alike and identifies a common research agenda for future scholarly work on Thucydides across the disciplines.

Thucydides' History of the Peloponnesian War is considered in history and political science as a text of fundamental disciplinary relevance. However, neither discipline takes the other discipline into account during debates about Thucydides. Following Thucydides and Political Order: Concepts of Order and the History of the Peloponnesian War, this collection features scholarly work that asks what political order Thucydides envisioned, against which he might have judged the events he described. The contributors explore the role that Thucydides plays as a model theorist or representative of an ideal political order in philosophical traditions and schools of thought.
